The Joy of Christmas, the widespread Christmas celebration in Gioia del Colle

The Joy of Christmas is the program of holiday events that brings Gioia del Colle to life every winter, an important hub in the Province of Bari, in the heart of the Apulian Murgia. Promoted by the municipal administration in collaboration with local associations, the event transforms the urban center into a large festive village for over a month, from the lighting of the tree until the Befana.

Lights, markets, and atmosphere

The scenic heart of the event is Piazza Plebiscito, where the ice skating rink is installed, while the traditional carousel spins in Piazza Umberto I. The large illuminated tree, light installations in the squares, and the Christmas-themed wooden huts scattered throughout the historic center create a widespread route that invites you to stroll through the decorated streets.

Concerts, shows, and tradition

The program alternates musical moments, shows, gastronomic appointments, and solidarity initiatives. Ample space is dedicated to concerts at the Teatro Rossini and on the church parvises, to itinerant street performances, and to events for younger audiences. Among the most cherished traditions are the living nativity scene of Montursi and the Epiphany fair, which concludes the festivities.

A Christmas for families

The Joy of Christmas pays special attention to children and families, with creative workshops, the descent of Santa Claus, Santa's Village, Befana games, and numerous animations distributed throughout the squares. The widespread Christmas format, with many largely free events, makes the festival one of the most popular winter events in Gioia del Colle and the Bari hinterland.

Where and when

The events take place in the historic center of Gioia del Colle (ZIP 70023), between Piazza Plebiscito, Piazza Umberto I, Piazza dei Martiri del 1799, and the main city streets, typically from the first days of December until Epiphany. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality.
