Roteglia's Historic Talent Show

In the heart of Reggio Emilia's summer, Il Pisello d'Oro is one of the most cherished events in Roteglia, a hamlet in the Municipality of Castellarano, Province of Reggio Emilia (Emilia-Romagna). It's a free-entry singing competition that brings an open stage to Piazza Sandro Pertini for everyone: emerging singers, passionate amateurs, and local voices compete before the audience in an evening of "music, merriment, and lots of passion." It's no coincidence that around here, it's known as "the most prestigious talent in the Secchia."

A Tradition Dating Back to the 1960s

The event has deep roots in the town's history. Il Pisello d'Oro was conceived in the 1960s by Giuseppe "Pippo" Debbi, a cultural animator from Roteglia and founder of the Pro Loco itself. For about two decades, the legendary evenings filled the parish cinema to capacity with aspiring singers from all the provinces of Emilia. That era is part of the collective memory of the village, and the modern revival of the competition—promoted today by Pro Loco Roteglia—affectionately carries on its legacy, bringing back the spirit of the singing contest of yesteryear to the town square.

Participating in Il Pisello d'Oro is also a way to discover an authentic corner of Emilia-Romagna, where community traditions are still alive and the Pro Loco works year-round to promote the natural, cultural, and gastronomic aspects of the Castellarano area.
