The game festival in the heart of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines
In the heart of summer, when the village of Tredozio fills with holidaymakers and tourists, the Game Feast of Ferragosto celebrates one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines: game cuisine. This small municipality in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, nestled in the Tramazzo Valley on the border between Romagna and Tuscany, dedicates the long Ferragosto weekend to a festival that attracts gourmets from all over the region.
The absolute star is game, prepared according to old recipes. The gastronomic stand offers first courses of fresh pasta, handmade by the village 'azdore': stuffed 'tortelli', 'cappelletti', and 'tagliatelle' served with wild boar ragù. The main dish is the rolled wild boar thigh, cut into medallions, served with its own sauce, alongside 'salmì' (a rich stew) and mixed sausage. There's also mixed grilled meat with fried polenta for those who prefer more classic dishes, and local wines, Sangiovese and Trebbiano of Romagna.
The festival is not just about food: every evening, after dinner, the square comes alive with 'liscio' orchestras, dancing nights, and live music. Local groups and bands take turns on stage until late at night, in a convivial atmosphere typical of Romagnol village festivals, where dancing and good food go hand in hand.
The event is the result of the voluntary work of various local entities: the Cinghialai Val Tramazzo team, the Pro Loco Vis in Fide, the Hunters' Group, and Civil Protection, with the patronage of the Municipality of Tredozio. It's an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Apennine Emilia-Romagna, far from the most beaten tourist routes, between Lake Ponti, the trails of the Casentinesi Forests National Park, and the woods surrounding the village.
Also known for the famous Palio dell'Uovo (Egg Race) during Easter, Tredozio is a village that preserves the traditions of rural and mountain Romagna. The Game Feast of Ferragosto is its summer expression: a simple, genuine, and rooted festival, where the community opens its doors to those who want to savor the products of the forest and Romagnol hospitality.
The Game Feast of Ferragosto returns to Tredozio from August 14th to 17th, 2026. The gastronomic stand opens on Thursday evening and continues throughout the Ferragosto weekend with traditional game dishes and fresh handmade pasta by the 'azdore'. Every evening, musical entertainment, 'liscio' orchestras, and dancing nights liven up the square.
Tredozio can be reached by car from the Via Emilia, exiting at Faenza or Forlì and taking the SP20 towards the Apennines. The nearest train station is Faenza (Bologna-Rimini line), from where you can continue by car or local transport.
The gastronomic stand is set up at the sports field and the Piazza Vespignani area, in the center of Tredozio.
