The rural world arrives in the heart of Vercelli: animals, workshops, and tradition
Every year, between late May and early June, The Farm in the City transforms the historic center of Vercelli into a large open space dedicated to the rural world. For six days, the areas of the Sant'Andrea Abbey, Parco Kennedy, Piazza Antico Ospedale, and the city center welcome families, children, schools, and curious visitors of all ages on a journey that brings the city closer to the countryside.
The event is a journey into the rural world in an urban setting: an opportunity to rediscover the bond between agriculture, education, culture, and community—values deeply felt in a province like Vercelli, in Piedmont, which has always been identified with rice cultivation and a unique rural landscape in Italy.
The heart of the event is the Sant'Andrea Basilica Meadow, where the Animal Area comes to life with over 30 species of livestock and farmyard animals: rabbits, pigs, cows, chickens, and many other guests that visitors can meet freely or along a guided path. Next to it is the Workshop Area, featuring about 40 free activities dedicated primarily to children, food education, and discovering the crafts of the land.
The festival doesn't stop there: there are spaces for sports and games, musical moments, shows, children's entertainment, an exhibition area with local companies and partners, and a funfair. Everything is designed to experience the city in a slow, participatory, and family-friendly way.
One of the most beloved features is the Fuori Fattoria (Outside the Farm), which involves local businesses, excellent food and wine producers, and above all rice, the defining element of Vercelli and its plains. Through street food, local products, and special offerings, the initiative extends the festival to the streets and venues of the center, showcasing the flavors of the Vercelli region.
Organized by COMTUR Vercellese in collaboration with Ascom, the Municipality of Vercelli, and numerous local partners, The Farm in the City is now a historic appointment for the province. Having grown edition after edition, it has become one of the most anticipated events of the Vercelli spring and a reference point for those who want to experience the agricultural world while staying in the center of an art city like Vercelli.
The 2026 edition marked an important milestone: the twentieth edition of The Farm in the City, hosted in Vercelli from May 28 to June 2. A celebratory edition, dedicated to the memory of Felix Lombardi for his contribution to the growth of the event, and built in the spirit of tradition and innovation.
For six days, the Sant'Andrea Basilica Meadow, Parco Kennedy, Piazza Antico Ospedale, and the historic center welcomed families, schools, and visitors on a great journey into the rural world, covering food education, sustainability, and peasant culture, with special attention to rice, the symbol of the Vercelli territory.
Admission to the main areas and workshops is free. For detailed schedules of animals, workshops, sports, events, and street food, please refer to the official program published on the event website.
