In Redivo, a small hamlet of Averara in Alta Val Brembana, the chestnut is a true institution. The Chestnut Festival is indeed one of the oldest in the province of Bergamo, with over half a century of editions behind it. It is organized by the Averara Chestnut Growers Association, which for years has been dedicated to the recovery and care of the ancient chestnut groves surrounding the village, bringing life back to a landscape and agricultural tradition that risked disappearing.
Chestnuts, Flavors, and Local Culture
The festival takes place over several days in October and offers tastings of chestnuts and typical valley products, roasted chestnuts, local gastronomy, and moments dedicated to local culture. The inaugural event, hosted at the headquarters of the Valle Averara Consortium, is traditionally dedicated to land care and chestnut groves, while on weekends the program is enriched with offerings for families and visitors.
A Community Celebration
The event is the result of collaboration between the Chestnut Growers Association, the Municipality of Averara, the Alpini Group, the AIDO Group, the Alta Val Mora Fishermen's Association, and the Parish of San Giacomo. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Alta Val Brembana, among the centuries-old chestnut groves and the villages that preserve the identity of the Bergamo mountains.
