Three evenings of flavor, folk music, and entertainment in Piazza Margherita
"The Breath of Tradition – Living the Spring" is the spring festival that brings Piazza Margherita to life in San Gennaro Vesuviano, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania. Conceived by Plus Produzioni and promoted by the Pro Loco San Gennaro Vesuviano 1982 with the support of local institutions, the event is part of the broader project "The Breath of Tradition… a journey into the culture and emotions of the territory," included in the 2025/2026 Event Calendar of the Metropolitan City of Naples.
The same initiative had already brought the Carnival parade dedicated to the theme "Mask & Identity" to the square in February, featuring the town's schools. With the arrival of the warmer season, the project shifts its focus to what the Vesuvian territory tells best: its food.
The format is simple and clear: each evening has a theme, an identity product, and a tasting route. The three evenings bear names that set the stage.
Alongside the main dishes, other agricultural excellences of the Vesuvian area take center stage: eggplants, piennolo cherry tomatoes, local wines, and the spices and aromas that have always accompanied the cuisine of this plain at the foot of Mount Vesuvius.
The entertainment is not just a backdrop but a pillar of the festival. Every evening, the stage in Piazza Margherita lights up at 8:30 PM with a program alternating between folk music, cabaret, and classic Neapolitan song, featuring names well-known to the Campanian public and plenty of space for young local artists. There is no shortage of karaoke moments and entertainment designed for all ages, in true village festival style.
The entire event is concentrated in Piazza Margherita, the central square where the town hall is also located: a choice that allows you to reach every part of the festival on foot, among food stalls, tasting areas, and the stage. The organization also provides services dedicated to people with disabilities, ensuring the event remains accessible to the entire community.
San Gennaro Vesuviano is an agricultural and manufacturing center of about twelve thousand inhabitants, about twenty kilometers east of Naples, in the plain between Mount Vesuvius and Nola. The town is best known for its Vesuvian Fair, one of the oldest in Southern Italy, held in September around the feast of the patron saint San Gennaro. "The Breath of Tradition – Living the Spring" was born as a spring counterpoint to that great autumn tradition: more intimate, more focused on food, but with the same spirit of the square.
It is an ideal destination for those who want to taste Vesuvian cuisine away from the tourist circuits of Naples and the coast: zero-kilometer products, festival prices, real live music, and a square full of locals. Admission is free; you only pay for what you choose to eat and drink at the stalls. For those visiting Campania in the spring, it is a direct way to connect with the daily life of a Vesuvian town.
Promoted by the Pro Loco San Gennaro Vesuviano 1982 based on a project by Plus Produzioni and included in the 2025/2026 Event Calendar of the Metropolitan City of Naples, the 2026 spring edition transformed Piazza Margherita into a large open-air kitchen. Each evening had a title and a guiding product, with street food stalls, tasting areas, and a central stage active from 8:30 PM until late at night.
The artistic program alternated between folk music, comedy, and Neapolitan tradition, with space reserved for young local artists and karaoke moments open to the public. Admission was free for all three evenings, with only tastings paid for at the exhibitors, and the organization provided services dedicated to people with disabilities.
Opening night dedicated to the queen of the Italian table, featuring Gragnano pasta and San Marzano tomatoes: cooking shows, tastings, and food stalls. Musical entertainment with Marilena Graziano and cabaret with Antonio Manganiello. Starts at 8:30 PM.
A journey through Vesuvian flavors in a street food style, with traditional peasant dishes and local agricultural excellences. On stage, the folk music of Gli Scacciapensieri and the cabaret of Simone Schettino. Starts at 8:30 PM.
Grand finale combining gastronomy and classic Neapolitan music: performance by Fiorella Boccuzzi and a traditional concert with Stany Ruggeri together with the Bottari della Cantica Popolare. Starts at 8:30 PM.
Every evening, in addition to the main program: performances by young local artists, karaoke moments, and entertainment for all ages.
