In the heart of the Agro Nolano, in the province of Naples, the small Municipality of Comiziano dedicates one of the most heartfelt celebrations in the area to its patron saint, Bishop Saint Severinus. The feast is not just a religious appointment: it is the moment when the entire community gathers around its roots, amidst popular faith, music, and conviviality. An event that, despite the town's modest size, attracts visitors from all over Campania.
The bond between Comiziano and Saint Severinus is ancient and deep. The festivities take place at two times of the year: January 8th, the liturgical day of the saint, and above all, the great civil and religious feast at the end of summer, between late August and early September. On this occasion, the urn containing the relics of Saint Severinus is welcomed into the town and becomes the center of popular devotion, with the novena, the triduum, and the solemn procession that winds through the streets of the historic center.
Alongside the spiritual dimension, the feast offers a rich civil program organized by the Festivities Committee with the patronage of the municipal administration. Over the years, Comiziano has hosted brass bands, the Bersaglieri fanfare, comedy shows, street food, and major free concerts: in 2024, for example, the grand finale was entrusted to a concert by Anna Oxa at the municipal stadium, followed by the traditional midnight fireworks display.
A distinctive feature of this feast is the friendship that unites Comiziano with the city of San Severino Marche, both linked to the figure of the bishop saint. The two communities periodically renew a pact of friendship consisting of exchange visits, pilgrimages of the relics, and joint celebrations, testifying to a shared devotion that transcends regional borders.
Amidst lights, music, and the scent of traditional dishes, the San Severino Patronal Feast is much more than an anniversary for Comiziano: it is the occasion where the town showcases its identity and hospitality. Those who participate discover the authentic soul of a small center in the province of Naples, where popular faith and street celebrations continue to intertwine as they have for centuries.
The community of Comiziano, in the province of Naples, is preparing to renew its devotion to its patron Bishop Saint Severinus in 2026. As every year, the festivities are expected to take place between late August and early September, with the novena, the transfer of the saint's urn, and the solemn procession through the streets of the center. The civil calendar, with concerts, brass bands, and fireworks, will be announced by the Festivities Committee in the weeks preceding the feast. The indicated dates are to be considered provisional and pending official confirmation.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. Based on tradition, the novena and preparatory triduum, the solemn mass, the procession with the urn of Saint Severinus, and a series of civil events in the square (concerts, brass bands, street food, and final fireworks display) are expected. The official program will be released by the Festivities Committee and the municipal administration of Comiziano.
