Floats, costumes, and music through the streets of the Agro Aversano
The Teverola Carnival Parade is the most anticipated winter event in this town in the province of Caserta, located in the heart of the Agro Aversano. Rather than a historic carnival with centuries-old roots, this is a community celebration built year after year by the Municipal Administration and the "G. Ungaretti" Comprehensive Institute. It is the primary and secondary school students, along with their teachers, who bring the parade, costumes, and floats to life, painting the town streets with color.
The result is a Carnival that may not be a major tourist spectacle, but is a massive civic success: an entire town pauses for a morning to gather in the streets, filled with masked children, lively music, and families following the procession on foot.
The meeting point is set in front of the "G. Ungaretti" middle school on Via Campanello, where classes gather with their floats and costumed groups. From there, the parade moves along Via Roma to reach Piazza Cavour, which serves as the final stage for the morning's festivities.
The Municipality describes the parade as "an explosion of color, music, and imagination." The floats created with the school are the heart of the procession, but the morning also features costumed characters for photos, live entertainment for families, and, upon arrival in the square, cotton candy and balloon animals distributed to the little ones.
The event's success also depends on those working behind the scenes: the Municipal Police and Civil Protection secure the route to ensure public order and safety throughout the parade, while the local parish community actively participates in the day.
The parade is the centerpiece of a broader Carnival program promoted by the Municipality of Teverola. The morning of floats is complemented by a Carnival party in the courtyard of the Town Hall, organized during the final days of the carnival seasonโa second, more intimate gathering designed once again for the town's children and families.
Teverola has just under 15,000 inhabitants and is located a few kilometers from Aversa, in the densely populated plain north of Naples known as the Agro Aversano. In Campania, Carnival is traditionally a street and neighborhood festival, characterized by handmade masks, floats built by associations and schools, folk music, and seasonal treats like chiacchiere and sanguinaccio. The Teverola Carnival fully embraces this tradition: no massive organizational machinery, but a collective ritual that unites schools, the parish, volunteers, and local institutions.
Participation in the parade is completely free and requires no registration: simply show up along the route or directly at Piazza Cavour. The invitation from the Municipal Administration is explicit and addressed to the entire citizenry, becauseโas the organizers emphasizeโ"Carnival is a moment of community, joy, and sharing."
For those visiting the Campania Region in February, the Teverola Carnival is an opportunity to see how this festival is truly experienced in provincial towns, far from major tourist events: an authentic, noisy, and cheerful morning where the town belongs to its children.
The 2026 edition was announced by the Municipality of Teverola on February 11 with a two-day program. The highlight was the Carnival Parade on Friday, February 13, organized in synergy with the "G. Ungaretti" Comprehensive Institute: the procession formed on Via Campanello, in front of the middle school, and set off around 10:30 AM along Via Roma towards Piazza Cavour.
Primary and secondary school students from the Comprehensive Institute participated in the parade alongside their teachers, accompanied by the Municipal Police and Civil Protection for route safety, with the participation of the parish priest, Father Evaristo Rutino. Piazza Cavour was transformed into a large space for celebration and sharing.
At the end of the morning, the Municipal Administration thanked the teachers and students for their participation and commitment, with special recognition to the Councilor for Culture, Mary Improda, for the organizational work. The Carnival program then concluded on Tuesday, February 17, at 10:00 AM with the party in the Town Hall courtyard.
The parade starts from Via Campanello, in front of the "G. Ungaretti" middle school, travels along Via Roma, and concludes in Piazza Cavour, in the center of Teverola (CE).
Admission and participation are free, with no reservation required.
