Allegorical float parades in the heart of the Valdarno area
In the heart of the Valdarno area, the Terranuova Bracciolini Carnival transforms the historic center of the municipality in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany, into a grand stage of joy. For several days in February, the main squares and streets fill with allegorical floats, confetti, costumes, and music, drawing participation from families, children, and associations across the entire region.
The heart of the event is the allegorical float parade, designed and brought to the streets by local groups and associations. Featured floats include "I' Citto," "Saliscendi dei ragazzi," "Le Torri," "Il Paese dei Balocchi" by the New Volley society, and "La Banda" by the Giuseppe Verdi Philharmonic. The processions wind through the center, passing through Piazza San Francesco, Via Roma, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Trento, Piazza Trieste, and Piazza Unitร Italiana, accompanied by street bands and live music.
Alongside the parades, the Carnival offers a rich program of side events. Among the most anticipated is the prize-winning contest for the best costumes, divided into various categories: best mask, most original mask, funniest mask, baby mask, and best group costume. There are also rides for children, DJ sets in the squares, and a masked parade that adds rhythm to the festive days.
The Terranuova Carnival has a strong focus on families. Creative workshops dedicated to mask-making are organized for children aged 4 to 10, led by local associations. Recreational activities and flea markets featuring local hobbyists complete an offering that makes the Carnival a meeting point for the entire citizenry.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Terranuova Bracciolini together with the Pro Loco and a wide network of local associations, who collaborate on building the floats and animating the days. The Carnival thus represents not only a festive appointment but also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of the Valdarno community around a shared popular tradition.
The 2026 Carnival of Terranuova Bracciolini was spread over three days. On Sunday, February 8, at 2:30 PM, the meeting point and departure of the procession were set in Piazza San Francesco, led by the Ciacciabanda Street Band; on the same day, a flea market and hobbyist market took place on Via Roma and Piazza della Repubblica. On Sunday, February 15, again at 2:30 PM, the parade set off from Piazza della Repubblica, continuing through Via Roma, Piazza Trento, Piazza Trieste, and the pedestrian area, featuring the prize-winning contest for the best costumes. The final event, on Tuesday, February 17 at 4:00 PM, closed the festivities with a new procession starting from Piazza della Repubblica.
Terranuova Bracciolini is located in the Valdarno area, in the province of Arezzo. By car, it can be reached via the A1 Milan-Naples motorway, taking the Valdarno exit, just a few kilometers from the center. By train, the reference station is Montevarchi-Terranuova, on the Florence-Arezzo-Rome line, connected to the center by local buses.
Parades and events in the squares are free to attend. Reservations may be required for children's workshops. For the updated program, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality and the Pro Loco.
