The allegorical float parade in the heart of Teramo
The Teramo Carnival is the annual celebration that paints the historic center of Teramo, the capital of the province of the same name in Abruzzo, in vibrant colors. The festival transforms the city streets and squares into a grand open-air stage, where colorful allegorical floats parade accompanied by music, dance, and entertainment for all ages.
The highlight of the day is the float parade, which traditionally departs from Piazza Garibaldi, travels along Corso San Giorgio, and reaches Piazza Martiri della Libertà, the city's beating heart. The floats, handcrafted by local master artisans from the Teramo area, are the result of months of skilled work and represent a true popular tradition passed down from year to year.
The Teramo Carnival is designed primarily for families and children, who can enjoy an afternoon of fun amidst costumes, confetti, and sweets. The event is organized by the Latinoamerica Unida Association with the support of the Municipality of Teramo and the contribution of the BIM, actively involving associations and municipalities from across the province.
Carnival is a deeply rooted tradition throughout the province of Teramo and the Abruzzo region, where every town celebrates with parades, costumes, and local gastronomic specialties. The Teramo Carnival serves as the capital's signature event, drawing families and visitors from across the Tordino valley into the historic center, creating a festive atmosphere that unites entire communities around a shared popular tradition.
The 2026 Teramo Carnival was held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM in the historic center of Teramo. The day featured five allegorical floats, created by master artisans from Basciano, Montegualtieri, Poggio delle Rose, and the Amici di Fernando association from Leognano di Montorio al Vomano.
The parade departed from Piazza Garibaldi, traveled along Corso San Giorgio, and arrived at Piazza Martiri della Libertà, where entertainment with music, dancing, and cotton candy for the little ones took place. The event, organized by the Latinoamerica Unida Association with the support of the Municipality of Teramo, provided a festive afternoon for families and visitors.
Teramo can be reached by car via the A24 motorway (Teramo exit) and the Teramo-Mare expressway. The Teramo railway station is connected to the regional network. The parade takes place in the historic center, between Piazza Garibaldi, Corso San Giorgio, and Piazza Martiri della Libertà.
The event takes place in the streets and squares of the center and is free of charge.
We recommend arriving in the center early to find parking in the surrounding areas, as some streets in the historic center may be closed to traffic during the parade.
