The summer season of the Teatro Sociale in Piazza Cesare Battisti, Trento
Teatro Capovolto is the summer season of the Teatro Sociale in Trento, the capital of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The concept is simple and evocative: the historic theatre's stage is literally "turned around" to face Piazza Cesare Battisti, transforming the entire square into an open-air auditorium in the heart of the city. This has become one of the most beloved events of the Trentino summer, bringing audiences of all ages together under the stars every evening.
Promoted by the Centro Servizi Culturali S. Chiara, the festival offers a deliberately eclectic program that spans various genres and artistic languages. The evenings run seamlessly from early July to late August, with performances always starting at 9:15 PM.
Teatro Capovolto is more than just a series of shows; it is a way to experience the historic centre of Trento on summer evenings. The square, framed by frescoed buildings and just a stone's throw from the Cathedral, provides the ideal setting for enjoying open-air performances. The festival is also part of the wider summer cultural program coordinated by the Municipality of Trento, helping to make the city a cultural hub in Trentino-Alto Adige.
With over fifty evenings and a lineup that mixes big national names, local artists, and young talent, Teatro Capovolto is the perfect choice for those seeking quality culture in an informal and convivial atmosphere. It is a unique opportunity to discover Trento by night, surrounded by live music, laughter, dance, and cinema under the summer sky.
The 2026 edition of Teatro Capovolto, the seventh consecutive one, takes place from July 2 to August 30 in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Trento, with fifty evenings of performances at 9:15 PM. The program, promoted by the Centro Servizi Culturali S. Chiara, spans music, drama, dance, cinema, poetry, and literature.
On the musical front, guests include Frida Bollani Magoni, Claudio "Greg" Gregori, Frankie hi-nrg mc, and Massimo Zamboni, alongside local orchestras and choirs such as the Haydn Orchestra and the Corpo Musicale Città di Trento. The drama and comedy section brings Natalino Balasso, Alessandro Fullin, and various stand-up comedians like Annagaia Marchioro and Daniele Gattano to the square. The Danza Capovolta section returns with the Federazione Trentino Danza, alongside Italian and European film screenings and literary sections featuring the poetry slam dedicated to David Wilkinson and the Prometeo Capovolto festival.
