A solo guitar concert under the shooting stars, in the world's highest stone theatre
Every year, on the magical Night of San Lorenzo, the Teatro Andromeda in Santo Stefano Quisquina, in the heart of the Sicani Mountains in the province of Agrigento, hosts an event that blends music, art, and stargazing. The star of the show is SULU, a solo guitar recital by Sicilian guitarist and composer Osvaldo Lo Iacono, who takes the audience on an intense and personal sonic journey, weaving together Mediterranean echoes and contemporary influences.
The Teatro Andromeda is no ordinary venue: it is an open-air masterpiece created by shepherd and artist Lorenzo Reina, who spent decades working on it in the mountains above the village. The 108 stone seats mirror the number and layout of the stars in the Andromeda constellation, from which the theatre takes its name; viewed from above, the entire structure forms an eight-pointed star. Considered the highest stone theatre in the world, at an altitude of about 900 metres, it overlooks a panorama that stretches across the valleys and mountains of central-western Sicily. In 2018, the project was selected for the Venice Architecture Biennale as part of the Arcipelago Italia exhibition.
The concert begins at sunset, when the warm evening light envelops the theatre's stone. At the end of the performance, the audience is invited to remain seated to admire the Perseid meteor shower, which lights up the sky on the night of 10 August. The atmosphere, suspended between earth and infinity, makes every sound and every wish part of an unrepeatable experience.
Nestled in the greenery of the Sicani Mountains, the Municipality of Santo Stefano Quisquina is a small village in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, known for its forests, the Hermitage of Santa Rosalia, and especially for the Teatro Andromeda, which has become an internationally renowned cultural and tourist destination over the years. The Night of San Lorenzo at the theatre is one of the best opportunities to discover this authentic corner of the Sicilian hinterland.
For the Night of San Lorenzo 2026, the Teatro Andromeda in Santo Stefano Quisquina presents SULU, a solo guitar concert by Sicilian guitarist and composer Osvaldo Lo Iacono. The appointment is for Monday, 10 August 2026 at 7:30 PM, when the sunset light envelops the 108 stone seats of the theatre.
The recital offers an intense and personal sonic journey, between Mediterranean echoes and contemporary influences. At the end of the performance, the audience will be able to remain in the theatre to admire the Perseid meteor shower, under the clear sky of the Sicani Mountains. Capacity is limited to 108 seats.
The Teatro Andromeda is located in Contrada Rocca, in a panoramic position above Santo Stefano Quisquina (AG). It can be reached by car from the SS189 and the local roads of the Sicani Mountains; the nearest airports are Palermo and Catania, about 1.5 to 2 hours away. The final stretch is a mountain road: it is recommended to set off in good time.
Paid admission, tickets starting from 30 euros, available on the theatre's official ticketing website. Capacity is limited to 108 seats: booking in advance is highly recommended.
The event takes place outdoors in the evening: comfortable clothing and a sweater are recommended, as temperatures drop at this altitude after sunset. To fully enjoy the shooting stars, it is preferable not to leave the theatre immediately after the concert.
