Great jazz music in the Sicani Mountains, at the Nuovo Teatro Comunale in Bivona
The Bivona Jazz Festival is a summer music series held in Bivona, a small village in the Province of Agrigento, Sicily, nestled in the landscape of the Sicani Mountains. Organized by the "Gaspare Lo Nigro" Music School in collaboration with the Municipality of Bivona, the festival has found its home in the Nuovo Teatro Comunale, a venue inaugurated in recent years that has restored a space dedicated to culture and live performance to the town.
The first edition took place in 2019. After a break due to the pandemic, the festival resumed with consistency: the 2022 edition (the third) brought names to the stage such as harmonica player Giuseppe Milici with a tribute to Ennio Morricone, the jazz orchestra of the "A. Toscanini" Conservatory of Ribera conducted by maestro Giacomo Tantillo, and saxophonist Claudio Giambruno. In the following years, the festival consolidated its collaboration with the Ribera Conservatory, also becoming a platform for young local musicians.
The Bivona Jazz Festival is not just a celebration of jazz, but a tool for cultural and economic promotion for the entire district. The event is part of a broader project by the Municipality of Bivona aimed at enhancing villages and local traditions, attracting audiences and enthusiasts to the Agrigento hinterland in the height of summer. The focus on emerging talents, alongside the presence of established artists from the national and international scene, is one of the hallmarks of the festival.
Attending the festival is also an opportunity to discover Bivona and the Agrigento hinterland, a short distance from the treasures of the Valley of the Temples and the sea of Sciacca. The evenings at the Nuovo Teatro Comunale, with their curated programming, represent a different way to experience the Sicilian summer, away from the most crowded destinations and immersed in the island's musical tradition.
The 2026 edition of the jazz festival in Bivona, in the Province of Agrigento, brings Chiara Civello to the Sicilian hinterland. A Roman singer-songwriter and musician with a jazz background, she is known for combining song structure with improvisation, Italian melodic taste, and a cosmopolitan flair. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Civello presents a repertoire built between jazz, pop, and international writing, with a vocal approach that avoids over-emphasis and favors interpretive elegance. This date is part of the summer tradition of the Bivona jazz festival, which every year alternates established artists and young talents at the Nuovo Teatro Comunale.
The detailed program for the other evenings of the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers, the "Gaspare Lo Nigro" Music School, in the weeks preceding the event.
