About Teatri d'Arrembaggio

Every July, the Teatro del Lido di Ostia becomes the home of Teatri d'Arrembaggio, a multidisciplinary festival created by Valdrada and divided into three sections: Piraterie, InCanti, and Castelli di Sabbia. This entirely free program blends stand-up comedy and contemporary theatre for adults with children's shows and creative workshops for families. In Rome's Municipio X, summer comes alive with laughter, imagination, and community culture, just a stone's throw from the sea.

Teatri d'Arrembaggio, the theatrical summer of Ostia

Teatri d'Arrembaggio is the multidisciplinary festival that brings the Teatro del Lido di Ostia to life every July, located in the Municipio X of Rome, on the Lazio coast. Conceived and curated by the Valdrada company, the festival was founded in 2016 and celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2025, becoming a staple of the Roman summer just steps from the beach. The event is promoted by Roma Capitale - Department of Culture and supported through the city's public grants.

Three sections, one boarding

The subtitle Piraterie, InCanti, and Castelli di Sabbia reflects the heart of the festival, which is structured into three parallel paths designed for different audiences:

  • Piraterie: evening events for adult audiences, featuring sharp stand-up comedy, surreal monologues, and contemporary auteur theatre.
  • InCanti: evening children's theatre, showcasing national excellence in youth performance with fairy tales and timeless classics.
  • Castelli di Sabbia: afternoon creative workshops dedicated to children and families, ranging from yoga for little ones to painting, puppet making, and singing.

A free, community-driven festival

The hallmark of Teatri d'Arrembaggio is that it is completely free: all shows are open-access, while registration is required for the workshops. This choice transforms the Teatro del Lido into a truly accessible and participatory space, fostering dialogue between different generations and languages. Over the years, the festival has tackled themes such as inclusion, interculturalism, and rights, always maintaining an ironic and popular perspective.

Ostia, the sea of Rome

The festival takes place in one of the most iconic locations on the Lazio coast. The Teatro del Lido, on Via delle Sirene, is a cultural hub born from citizen participation and is now a reference point for the capital's independent theatre scene. Attending Teatri d'Arrembaggio means experiencing Ostia beyond the beach, discovering the artistic vitality of a neighborhood that fills with Romans and tourists during the summer. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a day at the seaside with an evening of theatre.
