About Teatrando at the Castle

Every spring, the ARS Teatrando company transforms the Castello di Castellengo, located in the hamlet of the same name in Cossato (Biella province), into an itinerant stage. Accompanied in small groups, the audience explores the historic rooms and outdoor spaces of the estate, following a seven-scene route that reimagines fairy tales and legends. This beloved event in the Biellese theatrical tradition masterfully blends acting, playfulness, and heritage preservation.

Walking theater inside a castle

In Cossato, in the heart of the Biella area, the Castello di Castellengo is not just one of the most fascinating historic residences in Piedmont: for two spring days, it becomes the living backdrop for Teatrando at the Castello di Castellengo, an itinerant show produced by the ARS Teatrando company. There is no traditional stage or seating area; you and a small group of spectators move through the manor's rooms and courtyards, welcomed from scene to scene by actors in costume.

A seven-scene journey

The proven format features a path that begins at the evocative Porta del Moro and winds through seven scenes distributed across the castle's interior halls and outdoor areas. At each stop, the group watches a performed vignette before being guided to the next location. Entry is staggered, with new groups admitted every twenty minutes, ensuring everyone can experience the performance with the right level of intimacy and without overcrowding.

Reimagined fairy tales and legends

Each edition features a different theme, always drawing from the world of fairy tales and myths but reinterpreted with an ironic and surreal tone. The repertoire ranges from classic folk tales to Arthurian legends, in a narrative weave designed to thrill children and bring a knowing smile to adults. The production is directed by Paolo Zanone, the historic heart of the Biellese company.

A heritage to be experienced

The initiative is also a precious opportunity to discover the Castello di Castellengo, an ancient fortified complex listed among the FAI 'Luoghi del Cuore' (Places of the Heart), which is not always open to the public. The event takes place in the municipality of Cossato, in the province of Biella, and stands as one of the most cherished appointments in the Piedmontese amateur theater season, with a loyal audience returning year after year.

Teatrando at the Castle — edition 2026
