Contemporary art spread throughout the village of Tassonarla
TassonArt is a widespread contemporary art exhibition held in the village of Tassonarla, a hamlet of the municipality of Tresana, in the Lunigiana region of the Province of Massa-Carrara, Tuscany. For a few days each summer, a village of just seventy inhabitants is transformed into an open-air museum: installations, sculptures, paintings, and site-specific works inhabit the alleys, small squares, courtyards, and houses of the village, creating an intense dialogue between contemporary art and rural architecture.
Born as an initiative to enhance inland areas, TassonArt is much more than a simple exhibition: it is a cultural regeneration experiment that restores life and visibility to a village in the Tuscan hinterland. The event is supported by the Tuscany Region, the Union of Lunigiana Municipalities, and the Municipality of Tresana, and is part of a broader effort to promote small villages as places of identity and creativity.
The fifth edition, scheduled from July 31 to August 2, 2026, with the exhibition remaining on display throughout the month of August, revolves around the theme «Earth. Soul and Matter». The theme invites reflection on the earth in its multiple dimensions, connecting the raw material of the landscape to the soul of local communities. Artists from Europe, South America, Asia, and Italy are expected, selected in part through an open call for artists under 40.
In addition to the exhibition, the central days offer a rich and multidisciplinary program:
Nestled in the hilly landscape of Lunigiana, Tassonarla is one of those small villages that preserve the authenticity of the lesser-known Tuscany. Visiting TassonArt means experiencing contemporary art in an intimate and evocative setting, where every work becomes part of the village's fabric and the local community plays a leading role in welcoming visitors. An experience that combines culture, nature, and tradition in the heart of the Province of Massa-Carrara.

The three central days feature an opening with art historian and critic Angela Vettese, itinerant theatrical performances directed by Andrea Battistini, concerts, book presentations, a symposium for art students, and workshops for children, as well as tastings of typical Lunigiana products. The selection of artists was also conducted through an open call for those under 40.
