The Susa Carnival featuring allegorical floats, masked groups, and plenty of music
Susa in Maschera is the grand Carnival celebration that brings the historic center of Susaโa town in the Susa Valley in the province of Turin, Piedmontโto life. Though only a few editions old, the event has grown rapidly. It is organized by the Associazione Susa E20 with the support of the local municipality and dozens of volunteers, quickly becoming a landmark in the Piedmontese Carnival scene.
The heart of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats, masked groups, and individual performers winding through the streets and squares of the old town. The event typically spans two days: an evocative evening parade filled with lights and colors, and a grand afternoon parade perfect for families and children. The floats are accompanied by marching bands and entertainment troupes, turning Susa into an open-air stage filled with music, confetti, and high spirits.
Susa in Maschera is a free event open to everyone. Community participation is one of the festival's most charming features: local associations, masked groups, and residents all contribute to building the floats and animating the festivities. The meeting point is Piazza della Repubblica, where the parade begins its journey through the city center.
Nestled at the mouth of the valley leading to the French border, Susa is a town with ancient roots, rich in Roman and medieval monuments. The Carnival is part of a season of winter festivals that enliven the entire Susa Valley, offering the perfect opportunity to explore the historic center during a day of celebration. The event attracts families, curious visitors, and tourists every year, cementing its status as one of the most vibrant winter appointments in the valley.
