The opening stage of the national Superenduro circuit across the trails of the Cusio region
Every year, the trails of Pogno, a small town in the Province of Novara nestled between Lake Orta and the Cusio hills, transform into the stage for one of the most anticipated races on the Italian mountain bike enduro calendar. The Pogno stage of the national Superenduro circuit, historically known as the Enduro dei Gufi, has long been the event that kicks off the season, drawing hundreds of athletes from across Italy.
The event is organized by MTB I Gufi ASD, a local club deeply rooted in Pogno that meticulously manages the course marking and logistics for the entire race weekend, cementing Piedmont's status as a premier destination for national enduro racing.
The track spans approximately 50 kilometers with a total elevation gain of nearly 1,400–1,500 meters, featuring timed special stages interspersed with long uphill transfers. The trails wind through forests, ridges, and technical single tracks that test riders' handling, endurance, and ability to read the terrain.
Youth categories tackle a shortened program on the first special stages, highlighting the event's strong commitment to nurturing young talent.
The format spans the entire weekend: Saturday is dedicated to registration checks and free practice on the tracks, while Sunday hosts the official race, with the first competitor starting in the morning. The competition is surrounded by a paddock, camper area, food stalls, and social gatherings that make Pogno a true celebration of enduro.
Overlooking Lake Orta, the Pogno area offers an ideal environment for mountain biking: panoramic trails, dense forests, and generous elevation changes. The Superenduro stage is also a perfect opportunity to discover the Cusio region, its traditions, and its hospitality, with accommodations and facilities specifically designed for two-wheel enthusiasts.
The 14th edition of the Enduro dei Gufi inaugurated the 2026 national Superenduro circuit on the trails of Pogno (NO) over the weekend of April 25-26, 2026.
The program was structured as follows: Saturday, April 25, registration checks (8:00 AM–1:00 PM) and free practice on the special stages; Sunday, April 26, checks (7:00 AM–8:00 AM), technical meeting at 8:30 AM, and the first competitor starting at 9:00 AM. The five special stages (Elicotteri, Carbon, Monti di Prerro, Buciön, and the Power-Stage for e-MTBs) formed a track of approximately 50 km with 1,400–1,500 m of elevation gain.
With 368 registered participants at the start, the event recorded notable results: in the Open Men's category, victory went to Tommaso Calonaci, who won all special stages, and in the Open Women's to Clarissa Carzolio; in the e-MTB category, Alessandro Levra and Federica Amelio took the top spots. There was a strong youth turnout, a concrete sign of the revival of Italian enduro.
Pogno (NO) can be reached by car via the A26 motorway (Borgomanero/Gravellona Toce exit) by following signs for Lake Orta. By train, the nearest stations are Borgomanero and Gozzano. A paddock area and a camper site with electrical hookups are available.
