The 8.4 km non-competitive run in the heart of Lake Orta
The San Badalucc Run is an 8.4 km non-competitive road race held in San Maurizio d'Opaglio, a small town in the province of Novara, Piedmont, overlooking the Novara side of Lake Orta. Established in 2024, the event has grown rapidly to become a highly anticipated date on the local running calendar, successfully blending athletic activity with the convivial atmosphere typical of village festivals.
The 8.4 km track, certified by FIDAL Piemonte, winds through the streets of San Maurizio d'Opaglio and its surroundings, in a hilly area rich in views of Lake Orta and Mount Mottarone. The race is recreational and non-competitive: it is open to registered runners and casual enthusiasts with a valid medical certificate, in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere suitable for all levels.
The meeting point is at the Fratelli Pettinaroli company car park, on Via Pianelli, starting at 8:30 AM, with the race scheduled to start at 10:00 AM. At the end of the run, the top five men and top five women are awarded, in a spirit that values participation over absolute performance.
The San Badalucc Run does not end with the morning race. The day continues with an evening social gathering: starting in the evening, sandwiches and beer are served, and the celebration culminates with the lighting of a small symbolic bonfire, recalling the ancient local popular traditions and sealing the community spirit of the event.
Organized by ASD Circuito Running in collaboration with A.S.D. Lago d'Orta Sports & Events, the San Badalucc Run is part of the local running circuit and represents an opportunity to discover San Maurizio d'Opaglio, a town known throughout Italy for its tradition in the production of taps and valves. Running or walking along the route also means experiencing an authentic corner of the Piedmontese lake district, a short distance from the evocative shores of Lake Orta and the island of San Giulio.
The 2026 edition of the San Badalucc Run is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in San Maurizio d'Opaglio, on Lake Orta. The 8.4 km non-competitive course certified by FIDAL Piemonte is confirmed.
The registration fee is €10. A valid medical certificate for sports activity is required. For information: Orfeo (ASD Circuito Running) and technical direction Silvano.
