Ten marathons in ten days around Lake Orta
The Orta 10 in 10 is one of the most renowned endurance running events in Italy and Europe: ten consecutive days of racing along the shores of Lake Orta, with its logistical base in Gozzano, a town in the Province of Novara, Piedmont. The format is as simple as it is demanding: every morning, a race begins on a scenic 10.5 km loop around the lake, which can be repeated for ten days in a row. Participants can sign up for the entire series to take on the full challenge, or choose a single day or a package of stages.
Each day offers multiple distances on the same track: 10 km, half marathon (21 km), and marathon (42 km), with the addition of a 50 km race on one of the central days, included in the ultramarathon circuits. The course starts near the Via Monterosa gym and the Lido di Gozzano, descends towards the lake, and winds through villages and viewpoints overlooking the water towards Pella and Ronco, offering one of the most picturesque landscapes in Italian running. The race is approved by FIDAL Piemonte and is a key event for fans of stage races and long-distance running.
Organized by the ASD Orta 10 in 10 in collaboration with the Club Super Marathon Italia, the event has gained international status over the years, with runners arriving from dozens of different countries. More than just a competition, it is a gathering of a close-knit community of marathoners who share ten days of effort, celebration, and friendship on the shores of Lake Orta. Over the years, the event has also embraced sustainability, becoming plastic-free and encouraging participants to use personal water bottles at aid stations.
Nestled among the hills of the Cusio region, Lake Orta is one of the most romantic lakes in Northern Italy, dominated by the Island of San Giulio and the village of Orta San Giulio. Running around its shores, starting from Gozzano, means traversing a landscape of water, forests, and ancient Piedmontese villages. The Orta 10 in 10 is much more than a race: it is a unique way to discover this corner of the Province of Novara day after day, step by step.
