A day of inclusive sports, games, and festivities in the heart of the Alto Mugello
The Summer Solstice in Marradi is much more than just a summer event: it is a day built entirely around the values of inclusion, sport, and sharing. Organized by the Pro Loco Marradi Association on the solstice, June 21st, the event transforms the Covered Market and the town center into a large open space where people with and without disabilities play, compete, and have fun together.
The heart of the day is inclusive sport. Throughout the morning, there are matches of baskin—the basketball variant designed to allow athletes of different abilities to play together—and demonstrations of wheelchair tennis, with opportunities for the public to try it out firsthand. There are also moments to meet with athletes who share their personal and sporting journeys, while the Banda Bassotti roams the town, engaging both young and old.
Alongside sports, the program is packed with activities for families and children:
Lunch and a dinner with music and entertainment round out the day, turning the event into a true community celebration.
The event takes place in Marradi, a charming village in the Municipality of Marradi, in the Province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. Nestled on the Romagna side of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, along the Lamone River, Marradi is famous throughout the region as the village of chestnuts and the renowned Marron Buono, the star of the historic Chestnut Festival in autumn. Its elegant historic center, with the 18th-century Teatro degli Animosi and stately palaces, provides the perfect backdrop for an event that puts people and the value of togetherness at the center.
The Summer Solstice is a perfect occasion for families, sports enthusiasts, and curious visitors who wish to discover the Alto Mugello through an event with a strong social impact. A free, participatory, and open-air day where sport becomes a tool for connection and the community of Marradi opens its doors to everyone.
The 2026 edition, organized by Pro Loco Marradi, offers a full day dedicated to inclusion and sport. The program includes roaming entertainment by the Banda Bassotti, baskin matches at the Covered Market, lunch at the tennis center, traditional and modern games in the afternoon, hospital clowns, workshops, wheelchair tennis doubles, and meetings with athletes. In the evening, there will be a book presentation followed by a dinner with music and entertainment.
Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, followed by an evening dinner.
