Theatre, music, and live performance in the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg
The Summer Solstice Festival is one of the longest-running and most beloved cultural events in Trentino-Alto Adige. Established in 1991 by Giovanni Ghezzer and managed by the Gruppo Arte Mezzocorona, the festival takes place every June, transforming the villages of the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg into a sprawling open-air stage. Among the municipalities hosting the performances is Roverè della Luna, in the province of Trento, a long-standing venue for the event.
The festival's itinerant nature is its hallmark: each evening is held in a different location across the plain, including courtyards, historic gardens, squares, wineries, and cultural spaces in Mezzocorona, Mezzolombardo, Lavis, San Michele all'Adige, Faedo, and Roverè della Luna. In Roverè della Luna, performances are held in the Primary School courtyard, an intimate space that fosters a direct connection between artists and the audience. The festival is organized by the Gruppo Arte Mezzocorona in partnership with the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg Tourist Board.
The programme ranges from dramatic theatre to physical and street theatre, cabaret, live music, contemporary circus, and storytelling. Each edition features a central theme and alternates well-known national acts with emerging companies, with a special focus on intergenerational dialogue and family engagement. Many shows are designed for diverse audiences and find their ideal setting in the open-air atmosphere of early summer evenings.
A distinctive feature of the Summer Solstice Festival is the pairing of performances with local discovery: many evenings are preceded by guided tours and food and wine tastings at wineries, historic palaces, and museums in the Piana Rotaliana, a land famous for its Teroldego production. The festival thus becomes an opportunity to fully experience the local villages, blending culture, landscape, and local flavours.
The festival takes place every year in June. Performances in Roverè della Luna generally require a ticket, with affordable prices and discounts or free entry for minors. The full programme, schedules, and booking procedures are published on the festival's official website and the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg tourist portal.
The 35th edition of the Summer Solstice Festival was held from June 4 to 20, 2026, in the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg, with the theme "The kids are all, right?", a reflection on youth, dialogue between generations, languages, and visions. The festival featured performances spread across Mezzocorona, Mezzolombardo, Lavis, San Michele all'Adige, Faedo, and Roverè della Luna.
In Roverè della Luna, the event took place on Friday, June 19 at 8:30 PM, in the Primary School courtyard, with the show "Zitto Zitto" by Claudio Cremonesi: pedal-powered suitcases, dancing brooms, and flying tires, blending acrobatics, juggling, and poetry for an intergenerational audience. The evening was preceded by a visit and tasting session at local businesses.
Roverè della Luna is located in the Piana Rotaliana, at the northern end of the province of Trento, on the border with South Tyrol. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige - Mezzocorona), then following the SS12. By train, the reference station is Mezzocorona (Trento-Bolzano line), with onward travel by bus or car.
Performances generally have an affordable entry fee (around 10 euros), with free or discounted tickets for those under 18. Advance tickets are available online. For the updated programme, please visit solstiziodestate.it and visitrotaliana.it.
