Live music, Irpinian flavors, and community spirit in the heart of San Potito Ultra
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Some festivals don't need huge crowds to make an impact: all it takes is a town square, a few tables set up outdoors, and a stage built in the shadow of the houses. The Summer Festival in San Potito Ultra belongs to this category. It takes place in the town center, a village of just over 1,400 inhabitants perched at an altitude of over 500 meters in the province of Avellino, just a few kilometers from the regional capital. It serves as the perfect finale to the summer season, bringing together food, music, and social connection.
The initiative is promoted directly by the Municipality of San Potito Ultra, with the patronage of the Campania Region. It is not a commercial event, but a civic celebration: a way for the administration to provide the community with a public space for social interaction during the time of year when the village fills with returning families, visiting relatives, and vacationers.
The heart of the evening is the concert. In the most recent edition, the stage hosted La Maschera, one of the most original groups on the Neapolitan music scene, known for weaving folk and Mediterranean sounds with lyrics about love and redemption. After the live performance, the party continued with a DJ set by Vinyl Gianpy, which kept the square dancing and singing until late at night.
It is a simple but effective formula, common in Campanian summer festivals: a recognizable name in regional music that attracts audiences from neighboring towns, followed by a more informal, dance-oriented segment that keeps the evening alive. Those who love contemporary Neapolitan songs and folk-infused sounds will find a cozy, informal setting here, very different from large city festivals.
The opening of the food stalls always precedes the music: from the early evening, the town center transforms into a tasting trail dedicated to traditional Campanian products and desserts. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy an outdoor meal, dish by dish, before heading over to the stage.
The purpose of the event was clearly explained by Mayor Riccardo Porfido, who described the Summer Festival as "a moment of community, meeting, and sharing" capable of celebrating the village's roots. The administration emphasizes that events like this are essential for revitalizing the small towns of the inland areas, which are often left on the margins, and for establishing them as vibrant places from a cultural and tourist perspective.
In a territory like Irpinia, where depopulation is a real issue, music and local heritage become tools for development even before they are entertainment. In this sense, the Summer Festival is as much a political choice as it is a cultural one.
The village does not live by just one event. The local calendar includes the Fusillo co' Ciurillo Festival, dedicated to handmade fusilli with ragรน and fried zucchini flowers, and the Wild Boar and Chestnut Festival, which brings the flavors of the Irpinian woods to the square in autumn. The Summer Festival fits into this tradition of village celebrations, but with an identity that is more musical than gastronomic.
For those visiting Campania away from the coast, San Potito Ultra is a great vantage point: cultivated hills, villages nestled close together, mountain gastronomy, and a network of festivals that lasts all year round. Participating in the Summer Festival means stepping, for one evening, into the real rhythm of an Irpinian village.
At the moment, the Municipality has not yet released the date or the program for the 2026 edition. Based on previous years, the event is expected in August, but official confirmation will arrive via the official channels of the Municipality of San Potito Ultra. It is therefore advisable to check for updates before setting off.
At the time of writing, the Municipality of San Potito Ultra has not yet published the official date or the program for the 2026 Summer Festival. The event, promoted by the municipal administration with the patronage of the Campania Region, took place in the previous edition at the end of August and is reasonably expected in August this year as well.
The established formula includes the evening opening of food stalls in the town center, featuring traditional Campanian products and desserts, followed by a live concert and a DJ set that keeps the party going until late at night. Artist names, times, and logistical details will be communicated only closer to the event.
Those intending to attend are invited to check for updates on the official website of the Municipality of San Potito Ultra and on the organization's Facebook page, as well as in the local Irpinian press, before planning their trip to this village in the province of Avellino.
The festival is held in the center of the village of San Potito Ultra (83050), in the province of Avellino, Campania. The area is pedestrianized for the occasion and is easily explored on foot.
In previous editions, food stalls opened in the early evening and the concert started later, with DJ sets continuing until late at night. Available sources do not indicate any entrance fee: food and drinks at the stalls are paid for individually.
