The Quara Summer Festival

Every summer, the hamlet of Quara, a small village in the Municipality of Toano nestled at over 700 meters above sea level in the Reggio Apennines, transforms into the beating heart of community life with its Summer Festival. It is one of the many village festivals that, between July and August, liven up the mountain villages in the province of Reggio Emilia, in Emilia-Romagna, and which for generations have represented the time when the community comes together, welcomes holidaymakers, and celebrates its roots.

Three days of celebration

The event takes place over a weekend, from Friday to Sunday, with an evening program designed for all ages. Past editions have featured live music evenings, with liscio orchestras and musical groups, group dances, and entertainment moments that transform the village square into an open-air dance floor under the Apennine stars. There are also events for younger audiences, with themed evenings and DJ sets.

Traditional cuisine

The heart of every Emilian village festival is the food stall, managed by Pro Loco volunteers. In Quara, you can taste traditional Apennine and Reggio dishes: tortelli, gnocco fritto, grilled meats, homemade pasta dishes, and typical desserts, accompanied by festival wines and beers. It's an opportunity to discover simple and genuine mountain gastronomy in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

A village in the Reggio Apennines

Quara is one of the historic hamlets of Toano, an area known for the traditions of the Maggio drammatico (dramatic May) and for a landscape of ridges, woods, and ancient villages. The Summer Festival is also an opportunity to visit this corner of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, far from the most beaten tourist routes, and to experience the authentic hospitality of the Reggio mountain communities. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Quara, which involves village volunteers every year in setting up and managing the evenings.
