The Young Farmers' Apple Festival in the Town Hall Square of Naturno
The Südtiroler Apfelfest in Naturno, or Apple Festival, is one of the most beloved summer events in the town of Naturno/Naturns, in the province of Bolzano, nestled in the heart of the Val Venosta (Trentino-Alto Adige). Here, the apple is more than just a fruit: it is the symbol of an entire region. The vast apple orchards surrounding the Adige valley floor make South Tyrol one of the most important apple-growing areas in Europe, and Naturno, with its mild and sunny climate, is one of its most representative centers.
The event is promoted by the Südtiroler Bauernjugend, the South Tyrolean Young Farmers, specifically the local group from Naturno and Plaus. These young farmers handle every detail of the evening, from setting up the square to preparing the dishes, in a spirit of collaboration typical of mountain farming communities. The festival began as a way to bring together those who work the land and those who live in the town, and over the years, it has become a staple event that unites residents and visitors alike.
For one evening, the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) in the center of Naturno transforms into a large, convivial gathering space. The culinary offerings focus on local specialties and traditional home-cooked food from South Tyrol, accompanied by excellent local wines and, of course, apple-based treats. To make the evening even more enjoyable, there is live music, keeping the crowd entertained until late in a cheerful and informal atmosphere.
The Apple Festival takes place regardless of weather conditions: tents and covers in the square ensure the event continues even in the event of rain. It is a free, accessible event designed to bring the community together and introduce tourists vacationing in Val Venosta to the rural soul of this corner of South Tyrol.
Located just a few kilometers from Merano, Naturno is one of the most visited towns in the lower Val Venosta, appreciated for its favorable climate, hiking trails, and apple orchards. Participating in the Apple Festival is an authentic way to experience the town off the beaten path and discover the deep bond that connects this land to its iconic fruit.
The 2026 edition was held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to approximately 11:00 PM in the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) of Naturno. Organized by the Südtiroler Bauernjugend, the South Tyrolean Young Farmers of the Naturno/Plaus group, the evening featured local gastronomic specialties, home-cooked food, South Tyrolean wines, and live music. Admission was free, and as every year, the festival took place even in case of bad weather thanks to tents and covers set up in the square.
The festival maintains the same format from year to year: there is no pre-announced lineup of artists, but rather one large gastronomic and musical evening in the square.
The festival is held in the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) in the center of Naturno (39025), starting in the late afternoon.
By car: Naturno can be reached via the SS38 Val Venosta road, about 15 minutes from Merano. By train: the Naturno station is served by the Merano–Malles (Val Venosta) line, with a stop in the town center just a few steps from the square.
Admission is free. There are food stands in the square offering local specialties and wines. The event takes place rain or shine thanks to tents and covers.
