The zero-mile market at the old station in Adelfia
In the heart of Adelfia, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia, the old FSE station on Via Marconi is buzzing again thanks to «Chiacchr e Frutt», the zero-mile agricultural and craft market organized by the social promotion association Tipica Adelfia APS. The name, in the local Adelfia dialect, refers to «chatting and fruit»: the pleasure of meeting up, chatting, and rediscovering the genuine flavors of the Apulian land in a place steeped in history like the disused railway yard.
Each event opens in the late afternoon with stalls from local agricultural businesses: seasonal vegetables, fruit, extra virgin olive oil, preserves, cheeses, bread, and processed goods, alongside local handicrafts. However, «Chiacchr e Frutt» is much more than a farmers' market: it is a festival of local specialties featuring tastings, street food, regional wines, and agri-workshops dedicated to learning about produce, seasonality, and Apulian biodiversity.
The Tipica Adelfia association was founded in 2008 to promote local agricultural production. After the restoration of the old FSE station, the recovered spaces became the home of the market in 2018, which has grown over the years to offer a packed calendar of initiatives, including farm visits, evening markets, and cultural moments. It is a community project that has returned an open-air meeting place to Adelfia, nestled between the tracks and the canopy of the old stop.
Alongside the gastronomic experience, each evening offers an entertainment program: talks and workshops with cooking and agriculture experts, book presentations, shows, games for children and families, and live music concerts. Admission is free and parking is complimentary, set in an informal and convivial atmosphere designed for all ages.
«Chiacchr e Frutt» is not just a one-day event, but a series that, as per tradition, unfolds over several Friday evenings throughout the summer and autumn season, from June to October, with some stops even outside the station. It is a way to accompany the entire Adelfia summer and tell the story of Puglia's agricultural identity, stall by stall.
In 2026, «Chiacchr e Frutt» continues at the old FSE station in Adelfia (Bari) with its series of zero-mile evenings. The event on July 3, 2026, the second stop of the season, opens at 6:00 PM with the market of local agricultural businesses, featuring fresh and processed products.
At 7:30 PM, the talk-workshop «The Nature of Puglia in the Pantry» is scheduled with Wild Chef Eleonora Matarrese, a journey into the world of wild herbs to use in the kitchen to discover new flavors. The evening continues with live music from the Banana Republic Band, street food, and tastings of local products and wines. As per tradition, the calendar continues with other evening events until autumn.
The old FSE station is located on Via Marconi in Adelfia (BA). By car: take the SS100 Bari-Taranto road and exit at Adelfia. Free parking is available nearby. Adelfia is served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est on the Bari-Putignano line.
Free admission. Events are generally held on Friday evenings, from approximately 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
