Dried Cod, a Ligurian Tradition

Dried cod (dried codfish) is one of the pillars of the humble cuisine of Liguria, the star of traditional dishes like 'stoccafisso accomodato'. In Struppa, a district in the upper Val Bisagno in Genoa, it has its own festival, now in its twenty-seventh edition, a sign of its deep roots in the community.

Festival, Fair, and Comedy

The event combines several aspects: food stalls with dried cod and traditional dishes, the Struppa Fair with commercial stands, and comedy entertainment that livens up the evenings. In Piazza Giuliano Suppini, for three days, you can feel the lively atmosphere of a big village festival.

A Feast with a Purpose

The Struppa event is not just a food festival: it's the Solidarity Feast. The proceeds from the event are destined for a project by the G.A.U. Association (Giovani Amici Uniti - United Young Friends) to purchase an ambulance. Eating dried cod in Struppa thus also means supporting a concrete cause for the benefit of the local area.

The event is one of the most important among those organized by the Giovani Amici Uniti, a volunteer group that has been enlivening the social life of Struppa for years. The Dried Cod Festival confirms how, in the districts of Genoa, gastronomic traditions and solidarity efforts go hand in hand.
