A festival at the Tower of Dernice featuring music, culture, and local food
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
SuPerDernice is a vibrant summer series that, from June to September, turns the small village of Dernice into an open-air stage. Located in the Curone Valley, on the far hilly edge of the Province of Alessandria, this is the Apennine side of Piedmont that borders Liguria, Lombardy, and Emilia. The heart of the event is the Tower of Dernice, a medieval square tower (dating back to the 10th century and now municipal property) from which the view sweeps over the surrounding valleys, the plains, and, on clear days, all the way to the Alps and Monviso.
The festival's formula is simple and generous: a series of free-admission appointments spread throughout the summer, bringing together different genres and audiences. Concerts, film-themed evenings, author meet-and-greets, folk music, and choral performances take place in the historic center and around the tower, in an intimate and familiar atmosphere far from the crowds of large-scale festivals.
The connection to local gastronomy is one of the hallmarks of SuPerDernice. The famous Montebore cheese, an ancient variety with a characteristic tower-like shape (a tiered truncated cone that recalls the ruins of the castle), takes its name from the hamlet of Montebore. Today, it is a Slow Food Presidium and an iconic product of the Terre Derthona. It is no coincidence that the Montebore Festival traditionally closes the event, celebrating the flavors of the Curone Valley.
Following the success of its debut, SuPerDernice has established itself as one of the most anticipated events of the Dernice summer. This project, with its strong gastronomic and cultural identity, is promoted by the Municipality of Dernice in collaboration with local associations and supported by local institutions. It is an initiative aimed at promoting and revitalizing an authentic village, meant to be discovered slowly amidst landscapes, traditions, and fine dining.
For the summer of 2026, the Municipality of Dernice has planned the second edition of SuPerDernice, confirmed by the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona, which has allocated a contribution to the project described as an initiative "with a gastronomic and cultural identity, centered on the town's landmark, the 10th-century tower, in collaboration with other local associations".
At the moment, the precise dates and the 2026 program have not yet been published: as in the first edition, a series of free events is expected, spread between summer and early autumn, with the usual finale dedicated to the Montebore Festival. The updated calendar will be communicated on the official website and the event's social channels.
The detailed program for the second edition in 2026 has not yet been published. Following the success of the first edition, a series of free events is expected, including music, cinema, literary meetings, and choral performances around the Tower of Dernice, with the Montebore Festival closing the season. Dates and the full calendar will be announced on the official website superdernice.it and the event's social channels.
Events take place in Dernice (AL), in the historic center and around the 10th-century Tower, the village's landmark.
Dernice is located in the Curone Valley, in the Apennines of Alessandria. By car, it can be reached from the Tortona motorway exit (A7/A21), then heading up the valley. A car is recommended, as the village is in a hilly position and has limited public transport.
All festival events are free of charge.
For the updated calendar, please refer to the official website superdernice.it and the event's Facebook and Instagram social channels.
