The patronal feast of the Strombiano hamlet in Val di Pejo

The Strombiano Festival is the patronal feast of the hamlet of Strombiano, one of the small villages that make up the Municipality of Peio, in the heart of Val di Pejo, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). In this mountain valley, every village solemnly celebrates its church's patron saint: in Strombiano, the occasion is tied to the chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, built in 1706 and home to a fine wooden altar attributed to the Lenner workshop.
The festival combines religious observance with festive, popular spirit. The heart of the main day is the holy mass followed by a procession through the village streets, accompanied by the parish choir. Surrounding the ritual is the more convivial side of the event: food stalls offer dishes from traditional Trentino mountain cuisine, while in the afternoon and evening, there is no shortage of live music and dancing, transforming the village into a meeting place for residents, returning emigrants, and tourists vacationing in Val di Sole.
Strombiano owes its name to Strambus, an ancient Roman-era landowner. The village preserves precious evidence of alpine peasant life: Casa Grazioli (known as "de la Bega"), a rare example of local rural architecture, and the remains of Casàcia, the ancient medieval tower that once guarded the valley road. Experiencing the festival also means traversing this authentic landscape, made of stone houses, vegetable gardens, and ancient orchards reclaimed by the community.
Together with the other festivals in the hamlets of Peio — from Cogolo to Celentino, from Comasine to Celledizzo — the Strombiano Festival marks the valley's summer calendar within the Stelvio National Park area. It is an opportunity to discover the traditions, flavors, and hospitality of a mountain community that continues to safeguard its cultural and religious heritage.
The Strombiano Festival returns in the summer of 2026 to celebrate the patron saint of the Peio hamlet in Val di Pejo. As every year, the festival is expected to feature mass and a procession, food stalls with traditional Trentino mountain cuisine, music, and dancing. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published: we recommend checking for updates on the Val di Pejo portal and with the APT Val di Sole tourist office before planning your visit.
