Three evenings of flavor and tradition in Talocci, in the heart of the Sabina region near Rieti
The Stringozzi Talocciani Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the Sabina summer. It all began over thirty years ago when a group of friends in their thirties from the Pro Loco Talocci, after numerous attempts, perfected the recipe for this square-cut fresh pasta and organized the first edition in the small village of Talocci, a hamlet of the municipality of Fara in Sabina, in the province of Rieti. Since then, the event has grown year after year, keeping the convivial and genuine spirit of its origins intact.
The true star of the festival is the stringozzo talocciano, a fresh pasta made with just a few simple, genuine ingredients: water, soft wheat flour, extra virgin olive oil, and eggs. Its long, square shape recalls the leather laces once used for shoes, from which the name is said to derive. Today, the stringozzo talocciano is recognized as a De.Co. (Municipal Denomination) product, a label that certifies its deep bond with the Fara in Sabina territory.
During the festival evenings, the food stalls at Parco Fonte Pesole serve thousands of dishes: in the most recent edition, over 2,500 meals were distributed. The stringozzi are offered in various versions, from the classic meat sauce to mushrooms or fresh tomato, accompanied by cold cuts, grilled sausages, seasonal side dishes, and typical desserts like wine biscuits, all washed down with local wines.
Beyond the great food, the Stringozzi Talocciani Festival offers three evenings of entertainment for all ages: live music, dancing evenings with ballroom orchestras, animation and games for children, and a market featuring typical local and zero-mile artisan products, with an area dedicated to local craftsmen and small producers. The atmosphere is that of a genuine village festival, where families, young people, and visitors gather in the open air in the green countryside of Rieti.
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover Fara in Sabina and its surroundings, among the most charming villages in Lazio: the medieval historic center of Fara, the Abbey of Farfa, and the ancient olive groves that produce one of Italy's most famous extra virgin olive oils. An evening in Talocci thus becomes the perfect excuse for a weekend dedicated to the flavors and traditions of the Sabina region, just a few kilometers from Rieti and Rome.
The 39th edition of the Stringozzi Talocciani Festival was held from July 4th to 6th, 2026, at Parco Fonte Pesole in Talocci, a hamlet of Fara in Sabina (RI). As per tradition, the absolute star was the stringozzo talocciano, the square-cut fresh pasta recognized as a De.Co. product, served in its meat sauce, mushroom, and fresh tomato versions. The three evenings featured live music, dancing, a market of typical local artisan products, and entertainment for children, in the festive and convivial atmosphere that characterizes the event organized by the Pro Loco Talocci.
