The public evening of the Writing Masterclass, blending words, images, theater, and music in Agrigento
The Strada degli Scrittori Fest is the public highlight that crowns the Writing Masterclass organized by the Strada degli Scrittori Association, one of Sicily's most acclaimed cultural weeks. While the Masterclass takes place behind closed doors at Villa Genuardi, with lessons and workshops reserved for selected students, the Fest opens its doors to the city of Agrigento, hosted on the stage of the Cinema Concordia in the heart of the historic center.
The association was founded by journalist Felice Cavallaro to promote the so-called "Writers' Road" (Strada degli Scrittori), the route crossing the Agrigento and Caltanissetta hinterland—the birthplace and inspiration for great Sicilian authors such as Luigi Pirandello, Leonardo Sciascia, Andrea Camilleri, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, and Pier Maria Rosso di San Secondo. The Masterclass and the Fest were created to keep this legacy alive, fostering a dialogue between new generations of writers and the masters of the 20th century.
The Fest evening is structured as a multidisciplinary collective narrative: not a lecture, but a show featuring a rotation of writers and journalists, readings, theatrical moments, and musical performances. Each edition follows the theme chosen for that year's Masterclass, addressing key intersections between the written word and the contemporary world, from current events to cinema, and from historical memory to civic engagement.
The initiative is part of a broader journey that has placed Agrigento at the center of the Italian cultural scene, bolstered by its title as the Italian Capital of Culture. The Fest is an opportunity to experience the Municipality of Agrigento, in the province of Agrigento and the heart of Sicily, in a unique light, where the charm of Pirandellian landscapes meets the vitality of a cultural event open to all.
For the tenth anniversary of the Masterclass, the Strada degli Scrittori Fest took place on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 8:00 PM at the Cinema Concordia in Agrigento, with an evening titled "Images", dedicated to the intersection of words, photography, cinema, and music. The evening served as the public event for the 2026 Masterclass, which focused on the theme "The Words of the Image. From Minneapolis to Niscemi."
The evening, hosted by journalists Donata Agnello and Felice Cavallaro with coordination by Salvatore Picone, featured appearances by Gaetano Aronica, sociologist Nando dalla Chiesa, actress Ester Pantano, and photographer Angelo Pitrone. The program also included theatrical and musical segments with Antonio Tancredi Cadili and his puppets, Ibla performing songs dedicated to Rosa Balistreri, and Marco Savatteri and his company presenting the musical "Camicette bianche," based on the book by Ester Rizzo.
"Images" evening, public event of the tenth Strada degli Scrittori Writing Masterclass.
