Stockfish and Trofie al Pesto on the eve of Ferragosto
The Stockfish and Trofie al Pesto Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic festivals in the Brevenna Valley, in the municipality of Valbrevenna (Metropolitan City of Genoa). It takes place in Molino Vecchio on the eve of Ferragosto, celebrating stockfish, the dried cod ("Norwegian king") that has become an integral part of Ligurian culinary tradition.
Every year, hundreds of kilos of stockfish are cooked, prepared according to traditional recipes. Accompanied by the indispensable trofie al pesto, a symbol of Genoese cuisine. The food stalls serve dishes in a festive atmosphere, with music and dancing to end the evening.
The festival is recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events and organized by the Pro Loco of Valbrevenna. With decades of history, it is an identity-defining event for the community and an opportunity to discover the Brevenna Valley and the Antola Park, a short distance from Genoa.
For 2026, the 41st edition of the festival is scheduled for Friday, August 14, the eve of Ferragosto, in Molino Vecchio, Valbrevenna.
As tradition dictates, hundreds of kilos of stockfish will be cooked, accompanied by trofie al pesto. The evening will continue with music and dancing. The event is recognized as an Authentic Ligurian Event 2026 and is organized by the Pro Loco of Valbrevenna.
