About Piccola Stagione Musicale

Piccola Stagione Musicale is the concert series that brings Stazzano, a small town in the Alessandria province of Piedmont, to life every year. Promoted by the Associazione Stazzanese Amici della Musica (A.S.A.M.), it brings together choral, operatic, and sacred music performances held between the Parish Church, the Parish Hall, and the charming Piazza San Giorgio. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover a village in the Oltregiogo region where musical tradition has thrived for over thirty years.

A village music season, a lifetime in the making

The Piccola Stagione Musicale is the common thread that connects the musical events of Stazzanoโ€”a village in the Oltregiogo area of the Alessandria province, nestled at the foot of the Piedmontese Apenninesโ€”year after year. It is organized by the Associazione Stazzanese Amici della Musica (A.S.A.M.), an association deeply rooted in the community that has been championing a passion for singing and music in the heart of eastern Piedmont for over three decades.

The heart of the festival: choirs, opera, and sacred music

The season is not just a single event, but a diverse program that spans the year, featuring various genres and ensembles. Among the most anticipated events are:

  • Stazzano Cori, the choral music festival that brings together choirs from across the region, now in its twenty-sixth year;
  • Lirica in piazza, the summer opera concert that brings sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, and tenors outdoors to Piazza San Giorgio, in front of the parish church;
  • the traditional Christmas Concerts, now in their thirtieth year, which close the season with sacred and holiday repertoire.

The musical soul of the association is the A.S.A.M. Chorus, conducted by Maestro Franco Carrega. This ensemble has celebrated thirty-five years of activity and has always been a central pillar of the village's cultural life.

The venues of music in Stazzano

Concerts take place in the village's iconic locations: the Parish Church, which hosts sacred music and masses accompanied by choirs; the Parish Hall, where festivals with convivial tastings are held; and Piazza San Giorgio, the natural stage for outdoor summer concerts.

A festival supported by the community

The Piccola Stagione Musicale is made possible by the volunteer work of the association, the collaboration with the Stazzano Pro Loco, and the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona, which contributes to the realization of the program every year. For those visiting the province of Alessandria, the festival is the perfect occasion to discover a small Piedmontese town where music is still a true community affair.
