The traditional Ligurian ravioli takes center stage in the Bisagno Valley
Ravioli are one of the most representative dishes of the gastronomic tradition of Liguria, and in San Siro di Struppa, an ancient hamlet in the upper Bisagno Valley within the municipality of Genoa, a cherished festival is dedicated to it. Here, ravioli are enjoyed in their most authentic version, that of homemade recipes passed down through generations.
The star of the event is the trio of traditional ravioli, allowing you to taste different preparations in a single dish. The food stalls are managed by community volunteers, who keep alive a local culinary tradition of meat and vegetable fillings, meat sauces, and 'tocco' (a traditional Ligurian sauce).
The festival takes place in conjunction with the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, with Holy Mass preceding the opening of the stalls. This is a typical combination for Ligurian village festivals, where the religious and convivial dimensions merge into one grand occasion for the valley community to gather.
Going up to San Siro di Struppa means discovering an unexpected Genoa, that of the hillside hamlets of the Bisagno Valley, where the pace is slower and the connection to traditions is stronger. The festival is the perfect opportunity to experience this authentic dimension, just a stone's throw from the city but immersed in greenery.
The 29th edition of the St. Sylvester's Ravioli Festival of San Siro di Struppa takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Dotta Area, with food stalls opening at 7 PM. The event is combined with the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, with Holy Mass celebrated at 6 PM.
The absolute star is the trio of traditional ravioli, prepared according to traditional Ligurian recipes. The festival, organized by the parish of San Siro di Struppa, is one of the most beloved village festivals in the upper Genoese Bisagno Valley.
