Wild asparagus takes center stage in the village of Squille, paired with rustic flavors and Pallagrello wine.
The Squille Asparagus Festival is an unmissable spring event in Campania. It takes place in Squille, a small and picturesque hamlet in the municipality of Castel Campagnano, in the province of Caserta, where for a few days between April and May, the historic center transforms into a lively stage for taste, tradition, and rural culture. Organized for years by the Associazione Silla, the event celebrates the region's signature product: the wild asparagus that grows spontaneously on the hills surrounding the village.
The true star of the festival is the Squille wild asparagus, with its bold and authentic flavor, harvested in the surrounding woods and countryside. Local home cooks transform it into many traditional dishes, from appetizers to main courses, following recipes passed down through generations. The famous asparagus omelets, pasta dishes, and zero-kilometer specialties tell a deep story of the bond between the community and its land.
No meal is complete without Pallagrello, a wine deeply rooted in this territory and appreciated since the time of the Bourbons, produced on the hills between Squille and Castel Campagnano. Along the village streets, you will also find craft markets and local products from the Alto Casertano, an ideal opportunity to discover the flavors and traditions of the area.
The Asparagus Festival is not just about food: during the evenings, the historic center comes alive with live music, dancing in the square, and entertainment for all ages. The atmosphere is that of a typical village feast, where visitors do not feel like mere spectators but part of a community that opens its doors with warmth and hospitality. Hundreds of people reach the small village every year to experience this blend of genuine flavors and authentic humanity.
Attending the festival is also an opportunity to get to know Squille and the municipality of Castel Campagnano, a corner of the Caserta hinterland rich in history and traditions, nestled in the hilly landscape of inland Campania. The event, which has grown with each edition, is now a benchmark for lovers of fine food and regional enogastronomic tourism.
In 2026, the Squille Asparagus Festival reached its 22nd edition, spread over two weekends: from April 24 to 26 and from April 30 to May 3. On holidays, the festival was open for lunch and dinner; on the eve of holidays, only for dinner. The village of Squille, a hamlet of Castel Campagnano (CE), once again transformed into a lively and welcoming destination.
At the heart of the festival was the wild asparagus from the local hills, the star of traditional peasant dishes prepared by local home cooks and served under large gazebos, accompanied by Pallagrello wine. There was no shortage of craft and local product markets, entertainment, live music, and dancing in the square.
The festival is held in the historic center of Squille, a hamlet of Castel Campagnano (province of Caserta), at Piazza Largo Palazzo and the surrounding streets.
By car, you can reach Castel Campagnano from the nearest motorway exit on the A1, continuing towards the Alto Casertano; free parking is available near the village. By train, the reference station is Caserta or Caiazzo, followed by a short car ride.
On holidays, the festival is open for lunch and dinner; on the eve of holidays, only for dinner. Admission to the festival area is free; you only pay for what you consume at the food stalls. Pets are welcome.
