The Caserta village is reborn as ancient Bethlehem through the streets of the historic center

The Baia e Latina Living Nativity is one of the most heartfelt Christmas events in the hinterland of the Caserta province. Every year, in the days leading up to Christmas, the historic center of this small Caserta town leaves behind its ordinary life to be reborn as ancient Bethlehem: alleys, courtyards, cellars, and squares become the natural stage for a re-enactment that involves the entire community.
The route, approximately 2 kilometers long, winds through the village streets and brings together nearly one hundred stations animated by over 350 participants in period costumes. The journey begins at Largo Umberto Terracini, the town square, where the public is welcomed by food stalls and music before venturing onto the path.
Walking among the stations, you will encounter the workshops of ancient crafts: the blacksmith, the carpenter, the baker, wool spinning, and the processing of local produce. The scenes of daily life reconstruct the gestures of the past, while musical and artistic performances, jugglers, and fire-eaters accompany visitors along the way. The religious heart of the representation remains the Nativity, the final destination of the route.
Organized by the Il Borgo and AttivaMente associations, the event has grown edition after edition to become a benchmark for the Medio Volturno territory. The living nativity is much more than a show: it is a way to rediscover the town's identity, enhance the architecture of the historic center, and pass on the knowledge and flavors of the Campanian peasant tradition.
Baia e Latina is located in the province of Caserta, in Campania, a short distance from the Telese Thermal Baths and the Matese mountains: the Christmas period is the ideal opportunity to combine a visit to the nativity scene with an itinerary through the villages and landscapes of the hinterland. Past editions have attracted several thousand visitors, confirming the Living Nativity as one of the most anticipated moments of the Caserta winter.
Following the success of recent editions, the Baia e Latina Living Nativity is expected to return in December 2026, once again presenting the grand re-enactment of the Nativity along the streets of the historic center. While awaiting the official announcement, one can expect the proven formula: a route through the village animated by costumed participants, ancient crafts, scenes of daily life, food stalls, and music. Dates, times, and program details will be communicated by the organizing associations on official channels.
Baia e Latina (ZIP 81010) is located in the province of Caserta, Campania. By car, it can be reached from the Caianello motorway exit (A1) by continuing towards the hinterland, or from Telese Terme and Alife. The historic center is pedestrianized during the event: it is recommended to park in the designated areas on the outskirts of the town and walk to Largo Umberto Terracini, the starting point of the route.
Admission to the living nativity is traditionally free. In recent editions, evening openings have typically taken place from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It is advisable to check the updated dates and times on the official channels before traveling.
The route is approximately 2 km long on historic paving: wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. There are food stalls with typical local products along the way.
