About Spring Night Run

The Spring Night Run is an evocative night road race held every late May in Dobbiaco, in the province of Bolzano, at the foot of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The 11-kilometre course runs at sunset along the former Dolomites railway, from the Tre Cime viewpoint to the Grand Hotel Park, passing by Lake Dobbiaco. Part of the national FIDAL calendar and the Cortina Dobbiaco Run weekend, it is a beloved event for runners and enthusiasts looking for an extraordinary experience amidst the Dolomite landscapes.

A night race in the heart of the Dolomites

The Spring Night Run is an evening road race that transforms Dobbiaco/Toblach, a town in the Alta Pusteria valley in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), into a stunning sporting stage every late spring. The event draws hundreds of runners to cover 11 kilometres at nightfall, set against the backdrop of the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Dolomites.

The Route

The race starts at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo viewpoint and descends towards Dobbiaco, following the path of the former Dolomites railway—now a cycle path—passing by Lake Dobbiaco before finishing at the Grand Hotel Park. The route is predominantly downhill, fast and smooth, offering unforgettable views of the mountains illuminated by the last light of day and the athletes' headlamps.

Part of the Cortina Dobbiaco Run weekend

The Spring Night Run kicks off the Saturday evening of the famous Cortina Dobbiaco Run, a 30 km road race that connects Cortina d'Ampezzo to Dobbiaco on Sunday along the same historic railway line. The night race is designed for those seeking a shorter, more spectacular experience, suitable for both competitive and amateur runners.

An official FIDAL race

The race is included in the national FIDAL calendar (Italian Athletics Federation), featuring official timing, race bibs, and category rankings. The event is organized by A.S.D. F.O.R. Foundation Organization Running, based in Dobbiaco, the same team that manages the entire Cortina Dobbiaco Run weekend.

Atmosphere and Territory

Running at night through the woods and meadows of the Alta Pusteria, with the fresh mountain air and the silhouette of the Dolomites in the background, makes the Spring Night Run a unique fixture in the South Tyrolean road running scene. At the finish line in the Grand Hotel Park, athletes and spectators enjoy the festive atmosphere that defines the entire event, complete with refreshments, awards ceremonies, and views of the peaks surrounding the town.
