The spring fair dedicated to the crafts of yesteryear, held in Piazza Jervis in Villar Pellice
The Spring Fair Exhibition, known by its patois name "Villar e sî travai" (literally "Villar and its crafts"), is the event that kicks off the season in Villar Pellice, a small town in the Pellice Valley within the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. It is a young yet deeply felt local festival, created to showcase local production and regional activities through a day of connection between producers, merchants, and visitors.
The heart of the event is the craft market that brings Piazza Jervis to life from the morning, located in the town center just a stone's throw from the Crumière Felt Mill Ecomuseum. Among the stalls, you will find artisanal goods, local products, and valley specialties in an authentic mountain atmosphere.
The true highlight of "Villar e sî travai" is the exhibition set up in the Waldensian Temple garden: a collection of antique tools once used for work in the stables, fields, and textile production. Each object is accompanied by a label displaying its name in Italian and patois, along with a brief description of its use. This collection and cataloging project was carried out by the Pro Loco, involving residents in the months leading up to the fair to recover a piece of the Waldensian community's farming and artisan memory.
The day is enriched by numerous activities spread throughout the town: the Consistory garden hosts readings and stories about old crafts and stalls from local associations, while the Crumière Ecomuseum hosts painting exhibitions by local artists. Musical entertainment with accordion and guitar is always present, along with outdoor activities like archery near the pond. The Waldensian Temple, a symbol of this valley's identity, opens its doors to visitors throughout the day.
Part of the rich calendar of fairs and festivals in the Pellice Valley—alongside the historic transhumance fairs of Bobbio Pellice and the events in Torre Pellice—the Villar Pellice Spring Fair is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Piedmontese mountains, Waldensian culture, and the flavors of an alpine valley still tied to its traditions.
