The international Argentine tango marathon in the heart of Rome's EUR district
The SPQR Tango Marathon Rome is one of the most popular Argentine tango marathons in Italy and the benchmark event for the capital's tango community. Reaching its ninth edition in 2026, it draws hundreds of dancers from across the country and numerous European nations to Rome, united by a passion for the embrace, the music, and the non-stop milonga.
The format is the classic marathon style: a four-day program with over 35 hours of continuous dancing, from the Thursday night pre-party to the Sunday night after-party. There are no lessons or workshops, just pure social tango in a series of milongas brought to life by a selection of Italian and international DJs (musicalizadores).
The event is hosted at the Mercure Roma West Hotel, located at Viale degli Eroi di Cefalonia 301 in the EUR district of Rome, just a few minutes' drive from Rome Fiumicino Airport and about twenty minutes from the historic center. The modern and elegant facility houses the dance floor, restaurant halls, accommodation, and social spaces all under one roof: a valuable advantage that allows participants to experience the marathon without the need for travel, day or night.
The beating heart of the event is the wooden dance floor, highly appreciated by dancers for its smooth glide, complemented by a high-quality sound system and an intimate, international atmosphere.
The spirit of the SPQR Tango Marathon is one of Roman hospitality expressed through the rhythm of Argentine tango: milongas that continue into the early hours of the morning, social moments with brunches and shared dinners, drinks, snacks, and fruit available during dance sessions, and the traditional Sunday pizza. The name itself, SPQR (Senatus PopulusQue Romanus), plays on the identity of the city hosting the event.
With this marathon, Rome confirms its role as a European crossroads for tango culture. Located in the Lazio region, the event places the capital on the international circuit of major marathons, alongside historic European tango destinations, offering visitors the chance to combine their passion for dance with a stay in the Eternal City.
The ninth edition was held from Thursday, May 14 to Sunday, May 17, 2026 at the Mercure Roma West Hotel in Rome's EUR district. Four days of Argentine tango with over 35 hours of continuous dancing, featuring pre-parties, afternoon and night milongas, shared dinners and brunches, and the final after-party.
The event featured a wooden dance floor, a carefully tuned sound system, and a rich lineup of DJs and musicalizadores who rotated throughout the event.
