The Rome stage of the World Triathlon Cup at the EUR Lake
The World Triathlon Cup Rome is the Italian stop on the world triathlon circuit organized by World Triathlon and, locally, by the Italian Triathlon Federation (FITRI). The race takes place in Rome's EUR district, in the scenic setting of the EUR Lake, one of the most photographed corners of the capital, with the waters of the artificial basin used for the swimming leg and the district's grand rationalist avenues transformed into a circuit for cycling and running.
Now in its fourth edition in 2026, the event attracts elite athletes from over forty countries to Rome, in the Lazio region, many of whom are competing for world ranking points and Olympic qualification. The World Triathlon Cup is a premier showcase for international triathlon and brings a spectacular, visually striking sport to the city center.
The program is built around the Sprint distance, which includes 750 meters of swimming in the lake, 20 kilometers of cycling (five laps on the EUR avenues), and 5 kilometers of running. Alongside the individual men's and women's events, there is the Mixed Relay, the national team relay that alternates athletes in short, lightning-fast legs, making it one of the most adrenaline-filled specialties appreciated by the public.
The international competition is accompanied by age-group events, including the Regional Cup, which opens the weekend to amateur athletes and regional representatives on shorter distances, making the event a true celebration of sport open to all levels.
The Rome stage is the final and flagship event of the Triathlon Experience project, created by FITRI together with the Ministry of Tourism to promote sustainable sports tourism, combat seasonality, and showcase Italy's landscape, cultural, and food and wine excellence through four major international events distributed throughout the season.
Attending the World Triathlon Cup Rome is free: the public can follow the race legs along the EUR avenues, particularly in the transition area overlooking the lake, where the spectacle of the transitions is concentrated. The races take place in an easily accessible urban setting, ideal for a day outdoors between high-level sport and one of Rome's most iconic districts.
In 2026, the World Triathlon Cup Rome doubles up with a weekend of races, Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, once again in the setting of the EUR Lake. The event confirms the formula that has made the Roman appointment one of the most anticipated stages of the world circuit, featuring elite men's and women's events and the spectacular mixed relay.
The event concludes the calendar of the Triathlon Experience project, the initiative by FITRI and the Ministry of Tourism that visits Padola, Alghero, Taranto, and finally Rome throughout the season to promote Italy and sustainable sports tourism.
The 2026 program confirms the Sprint distance format (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) for the individual elite men's and women's events, accompanied by the national team Mixed Relay and age-group events including the Regional Cup. Detailed race times and the official athlete guide will be published by the Italian Triathlon Federation and on events.triathlon.org in the weeks leading up to the event.
The EUR district is served by the Metro Line B (EUR Palasport, EUR Fermi, and EUR Magliana stations, all just a few minutes from the EUR Lake) and numerous bus lines. By car, it can be reached via Via Cristoforo Colombo; on race days, road closures and traffic changes are expected in the area, with parking recommended in the surrounding zones.
Public access along the course is free. The races are held outdoors: comfortable clothing and sun protection are recommended during the central hours of the day.
The elite races are broadcast live on the TriathlonLIVE platform. Official information on schedules and the detailed program can be found on the Italian Triathlon Federation channels and at events.triathlon.org.
