The 10 km race in Rome's EUR district
Roma Urbs Mundi is one of the most beloved road races on the capital's running calendar. Every year in mid-December, the event transforms Rome's EUR district into a grand stage for running, attracting thousands of enthusiasts from across the Lazio region and beyond. The race covers the classic 10-kilometer distance on a certified, measured course and is organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Bancari Romani, a historic Roman running club.
Now in its twenty-fourth year, Roma Urbs Mundi has become a staple of the pre-Christmas season in the capital. Its name, which recalls the ancient definition of Rome as the "city of the world," celebrates the deep bond between running and the city's heritage. Over the years, the event has become a true collective ritual for the local running community, who close out the competitive season by racing through the wide vistas and rationalist architecture of the EUR.
The fast, largely flat course winds along the grand avenues of the EUR district, starting and finishing at Piazzale dell'Industria. The wide streets of this district, designed in the 1930s, offer an ideal setting for a smooth run, appreciated both by those chasing a personal best and those participating for the pure joy of running in one of Rome's most striking areas.
Organized in the municipality of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), Roma Urbs Mundi combines sport, social connection, and a love for the capital. With chip-timed bibs, a technical jersey, aid stations along the course, and a medal at the finish line, the event offers all participants the experience of a major city race in a festive atmosphere that anticipates the Christmas celebrations.
The twenty-fourth edition of Roma Urbs Mundi is scheduled for Sunday, December 13, 2026, in Rome's EUR district. The event, organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Bancari Romani, confirms its proven 10-kilometer format with three ways to participate: the competitive race reserved for registered athletes, the non-competitive run open to everyone, and the fitwalking category. The start and finish are set at Piazzale dell'Industria, the heart of the EUR.
The competitive race is included in the national FIDAL calendar. The race pack includes an official technical jersey, a chip-timed bib, and a participation medal at the finish. Online registration via the official platform and last-minute registration at the village while supplies last.
The EUR district is easily accessible via the Metro Line B (EUR Palasport, EUR Fermi, or EUR Magliana stations). By car, the EUR is served by exits from the Grande Raccordo Anulare and Via Cristoforo Colombo. Ample parking is available in the area.
Registration is available online through the official platform, with different fees for the competitive and non-competitive races. Last-minute registration is available at the event village in the days leading up to the race, subject to bib availability.
Participants meet at Piazzale dell'Industria from the early morning, with the start set for 8:30 AM. Arriving early is recommended for bib pickup and bag drop-off.
