A weekend dedicated to sport, health, and wellness in Portacomaro
In Portacomaro, a hillside village in the province of Asti nestled among the vineyards of Monferrato, the last weekend of May is dedicated to Sportacomaro, an event that focuses on sport, health, wellness, and, above all, togetherness. Launched in 2025 as the successor to the historic "Festa dello Sportivo," the event is organized by the Municipality of Portacomaro in collaboration with the Pro Loco and numerous local sports associations, with the goal of promoting the town and creating opportunities for meeting and inclusion for all ages.
The heart of the event is the town square, which for an entire weekend fills up with stands, makeshift playing fields, and crowds of people. On Sunday morning, everyone can try out different disciplines for free thanks to the participation of local associations: from basketball to judo, tamburello to chess, table tennis to bocce, not to mention the flag-wavers and the charming donkey walks with multisensory readings.
Portacomaro is one of the iconic towns for tamburello in Piedmont, a traditional sport typical of the Asti hills. It is no coincidence that the grand finale of Sportacomaro is dedicated to an official Serie A Tamburello Championship match, featuring the home team against a local rival: a highly anticipated event that draws fans and curious spectators alike.
Beyond sport, Sportacomaro is a convivial occasion: the refreshment point with a "packed lunch" featuring local products, the picnic in the green area, and the presence of organizations like AVIS and the Civil Protection make the event a true community moment. It is the perfect example of how a small Monferrato town can showcase grassroots sports, volunteering, and village life, set against a unique landscape of Grignolino vines.
The second edition of Sportacomaro, one year after its debut, confirmed the success of the formula: a weekend of sport, movement, and sharing organized by the Municipality of Portacomaro with the Pro Loco and local sports associations. Saturday, May 23, opened with the "Giovani Promesse" (Young Promises) tamburello stage for U8 and U10 categories, while Sunday offered a rich program of free activities for all ages, from sports trials to wellness classes, culminating in the major Serie A Tamburello Championship match.
During the morning, the Civil Protection stand with the "Io non rischio" project, the information point of the Sci Club Don Bosco Asti, and the Municipality stand dedicated to local trails and walking paths were also present.
Portacomaro is located just a few kilometers from Asti, easily accessible by car from the A21 motorway (Asti Est exit) and the provincial roads of Monferrato. The most convenient train station is in Asti, about 8 km from the town.
The event takes place on the last weekend of May, with activities concentrated mainly on Sunday morning in the town square.
Access to sports activities and trials in the square is free. The "packed lunch" and e-bike rentals for the bike ride require advance booking.
Bring comfortable clothing and sneakers to participate in the sports trials. For the Grignolino Bike Ride, electric bicycles are available for rent upon reservation.
