Opera under the stars in Piazza Mons. Massone
Sorrisi Lirici is the festival that brings opera to the summer evenings of Diano Castello, a village in the Gulf of Diano in the province of Imperia. The idea is to bring the great repertoire closer to the public, staging titles of Italian comic opera in the square, under the stars, with singers and piano accompaniment.
Now in its 10th edition, the festival is one of the highlights of the Castrum Musicae concert season. The performance takes place in Piazza Mons. Massone, in the heart of the historic centre, in an intimate setting that enhances the direct relationship between performers and spectators.
With free admission, Sorrisi Lirici is designed for both opera enthusiasts and those approaching opera for the first time. The choice of a comic, brilliant, and accessible repertoire, along with the informal setting of a village square, makes the evening an experience of music and conviviality typical of the Ligurian summer in the western Riviera.
On July 5, 2026, at 9 PM, Piazza Mons. Massone in Diano Castello will host the tenth edition of Sorrisi Lirici with Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale, one of the masterpieces of Italian comic opera.
On stage will be bass Nicholas Tagliatini, artistic director of the festival, soprano Anna Delfino, and pianist Alberto Perfetti. The event is part of the first Castrum Musicae concert season and is free to attend.
Diano Castello can be reached in a few minutes from Diano Marina, exit Imperia Est on the A10 motorway. Piazza Mons. Massone is located in the pedestrian historic centre of the village.
Free admission to the performance. It is advisable to arrive early to find a seat.
