About Sorelle Festival

Sorelle Festival is the widespread review dedicated to the languages of contemporary art, feminist culture, and practices of freedom that every year, in March, enlivens Faenza and the municipalities of the Unione della Romagna Faentina. Promoted by the Fatti d'Arte association, it offers a full month of free events — exhibitions, performances, talks, concerts, dance, presentations, and workshops — built around a different theme each edition and capable of intertwining historical memory, artistic research, and social commitment.

A widespread festival between Faenza and Romagna Faentina

Sorelle Festival is one of the most recognizable cultural events in the province of Ravenna: a widespread review that every year, throughout the month of March, transforms Faenza and the neighboring municipalities into a stage dedicated to contemporary art and feminist culture. Promoted by the Associazione Fatti d'Arte Aps, chaired by Veronica Bassani, the festival has grown to involve an entire network of cities in the Unione della Romagna Faentina — in addition to Faenza, also Riolo Terme, Lugo, Fusignano, and Gambettola — making territorial diffusion one of its distinctive features.

Art, memory, and practices of freedom

The heart of the festival is the encounter between the languages of art (visual arts, photography, ceramics, installation, sound performance, dance) and a collective reflection on the female condition, sisterhood, and practices of freedom. Each edition revolves around a theme: in 2025 it was Scatenate – Free from the chains of patriarchy, while the 2026 edition chose the slogan DIVE – Not out of vanity, but for truth, questioning what happens when visibility ceases to be vanity and becomes responsibility.

What to expect

  • Art exhibitions, installations, and photography spread across historic buildings, galleries, and city spaces.
  • Talks, performative lectures, and book presentations with female artists, writers, journalists, and historians.
  • Concerts, sound performances, and dance and stand-up comedy shows.
  • A Romagna Feminism Archive that collects testimonies, photos, and materials on local feminist movements of the Sixties and Seventies.
  • Educational activities for local schools.

A free and civic event

Included in the program for International Women's Day on March 8th and sponsored by the Unione della Romagna Faentina and the Emilia-Romagna Region, Sorelle Festival offers over thirty events with predominantly free admission. It is an event that combines artistic quality and civic engagement, and has managed to build a loyal, intergenerational audience, made up of those who live in Faenza and Romagna and those who travel to the city specifically for its cultural offerings.

Sorelle Festival — edition 2026

The seventh edition of Sorelle Festival, from March 1st to 29th, 2026, brought the slogan DIVE – Not out of vanity, but for truth throughout Romagna Faentina. A month of free events in Faenza, Riolo Terme, Lugo, Fusignano, and Gambettola, featuring nine exhibitions, talks, performative lectures, concerts, dance, and a digital archive of Romagna feminism.

The VII edition of Sorelle Festival took place from March 1st to 29th, 2026, with a first weekend of inaugurations from March 5th to 8th. The chosen theme, DIVE – Not out of vanity, but for truth, focused on a precise curatorial question: what happens when visibility ceases to be vanity and becomes responsibility? The widespread review involved Faenza, Riolo Terme, Lugo, Fusignano, and Gambettola, with nine exhibitions, talks, book presentations, concerts, sound performances, and educational activities for schools, in addition to the Romagna Feminism Archive.
