The widespread review of feminist art and culture in Romagna
Sorelle Festival is one of the most recognizable cultural events in the province of Ravenna: a widespread review that every year, throughout the month of March, transforms Faenza and the neighboring municipalities into a stage dedicated to contemporary art and feminist culture. Promoted by the Associazione Fatti d'Arte Aps, chaired by Veronica Bassani, the festival has grown to involve an entire network of cities in the Unione della Romagna Faentina — in addition to Faenza, also Riolo Terme, Lugo, Fusignano, and Gambettola — making territorial diffusion one of its distinctive features.
The heart of the festival is the encounter between the languages of art (visual arts, photography, ceramics, installation, sound performance, dance) and a collective reflection on the female condition, sisterhood, and practices of freedom. Each edition revolves around a theme: in 2025 it was Scatenate – Free from the chains of patriarchy, while the 2026 edition chose the slogan DIVE – Not out of vanity, but for truth, questioning what happens when visibility ceases to be vanity and becomes responsibility.
Included in the program for International Women's Day on March 8th and sponsored by the Unione della Romagna Faentina and the Emilia-Romagna Region, Sorelle Festival offers over thirty events with predominantly free admission. It is an event that combines artistic quality and civic engagement, and has managed to build a loyal, intergenerational audience, made up of those who live in Faenza and Romagna and those who travel to the city specifically for its cultural offerings.
The VII edition of Sorelle Festival took place from March 1st to 29th, 2026, with a first weekend of inaugurations from March 5th to 8th. The chosen theme, DIVE – Not out of vanity, but for truth, focused on a precise curatorial question: what happens when visibility ceases to be vanity and becomes responsibility? The widespread review involved Faenza, Riolo Terme, Lugo, Fusignano, and Gambettola, with nine exhibitions, talks, book presentations, concerts, sound performances, and educational activities for schools, in addition to the Romagna Feminism Archive.
Opening on March 6th with the presentation of the association SOS Donna at the Biblioteca Manfrediana in Granarolo (8:45 PM). On March 7th, in Faenza's Piazza della Libertà, the performance Paper Wings: Metamorphosis and the walk On the Footsteps of Women (4:00 PM). On March 8th, for International Women's Day, a guided tour and performance Echoes of Distant Women at Palazzo Milzetti.
The festival also featured porcelain and ceramic installations, musical performances of feminist songs, and moments of intergenerational dialogue with the "Sisters of the 70s." Full program at sorellefestival.it.
