About Solarino Carnival

The Solarino Carnival, also known as the Sanpalisi Carnival, is the most vibrant and anticipated festival in Solarino, in the province of Syracuse. Organized by the local Municipality and the Pro Loco, it brings the town to life for several days with parades of allegorical floats, costumed groups, dancing in Piazza del Plebiscito, children's shows, and local food tastings. It is a deep-rooted popular tradition that involves schools, associations, and the entire community, turning the town center into a grand stage of confetti, music, and masks.

The Solarino Carnival

The Solarino Carnival, also known as the Sanpalisi Carnival, is the most awaited winter event in Solarino, a small town in the province of Syracuse, in the heart of southeastern Sicily. For a few days, the town fills with color, music, and joy: Piazza del Plebiscito, the hub of local life, becomes the natural stage for a popular festival that engages both adults and children.

Allegorical floats and costumed groups

The heart of the event lies in the parades of allegorical floats and costumed groups, which travel through the town streets, usually starting from the school area. The floats, the result of months of work by local associations and groups, parade alongside masks, performers, and children in costume, accompanied by music and confetti. The tradition sees strong participation from local schools, particularly the "Elio Vittorini" Comprehensive Institute, which presents its own themed parades for students every year.

A festival for the whole community

Beyond the parades, the Solarino Carnival program is enriched with numerous side events: shows for children and families, entertainment and inflatables in the square, majorette performances, cabaret acts, evening shows, concerts, and DJ sets that liven up the nights. Among the most beloved initiatives is the famous Dog Carnival, which brings four-legged friends in costume to the Villa Comunale, as well as food and wine moments featuring traditional Sicilian flavors.

A Sicilian popular tradition

The Solarino Carnival represents one of the many popular carnivals that enliven the province of Syracuse and Sicily in the period leading up to Lent. Organized by the Municipality of Solarino and the Pro Loco, with the patronage of the Sicilian Region, it is an event that combines fun, participation, and local identity, confirming itself year after year as a moment of strong cohesion for the entire Solarino community.
