About Sicilia Street Food

The Sicilia Street Food Fest brings the historic center of Lercara Friddi, in the province of Palermo, to life with a weekend entirely dedicated to Sicilian street food and local craftsmanship. The town's squares come alive with food stalls, live music, folk groups, and performances, creating a vibrant and convivial atmosphere. It is the perfect opportunity to savor traditional specialties—panelle, arancine, sfincione, cannoli, and fried fish—while strolling through the village stalls.

Sicilian street food in Lercara Friddi

The Sicilia Street Food Fest is the event that transforms the historic center of Lercara Friddi, a town in the hinterland of the Palermo province, into a grand culinary trail at the end of summer. The event is entirely dedicated to Sicilian street food and local craftsmanship: for two days, the town's squares—Piazza Duomo, Piazza Garibaldi, and Piazza Indipendenza—are filled with food stalls, enticing aromas, and music, attracting families, curious visitors, and fans of the island's popular cuisine.

Specialties to taste

The heart of the festival lies in traditional dishes, perfect for enjoying while wandering between the stalls. Among the specialties you can savor:

  • Pane con panelle (chickpea fritter sandwiches), spleen, and potato croquettes
  • Arancine and cudduruna
  • Sfincione (Sicilian pizza), tripe, and various fried snacks
  • Fritturiedda di pesce (small fried fish) and purpu (octopus)
  • Traditional sweets like cannoli, cassatelle, and the local "pantofola," a sweet pastry with crushed almonds, candied fruit, and chocolate

Alongside the food, there is space for craft beers and products from local producers in a market that celebrates the region's food, wine, and artisan heritage.

Music, shows, and folklore

The Sicilia Street Food Fest is more than just gastronomy: the proven formula combines tastings with a program of live music, folk groups, and street performances that animate the various squares of the center. Past editions have featured local musical groups, band performances, and Sicilian folklore processions, making the evening a celebration for all ages.

A highlight of the Lercara summer calendar

The event is organized with the support of the Pro Loco of Lercara Friddi and is part of the town's rich summer program, which includes concerts, processions, re-enactments, and cultural initiatives that enliven the village from July to August. For those visiting the Palermo hinterland, the Sicilia Street Food Fest is an authentic opportunity to experience the flavors and hospitality of this Sicilian village.

Sicilia Street Food — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Sicilia Street Food Fest in Lercara Friddi is expected at the end of the summer, following the event's established calendar. Official dates and the program have not yet been announced; the Pro Loco and organizers will communicate details regarding this appointment dedicated to Sicilian street food and local crafts in the coming weeks.

The Sicilia Street Food Fest is expected to return to Lercara Friddi in 2026, confirming its status as a regular fixture in the town's summer calendar. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; organizers have indicated that the program will be published soon.

As in previous editions, a weekend in the historic center's squares is expected, featuring Sicilian street food stalls—panelle, arancine, sfincione, fried snacks, and traditional sweets—accompanied by live music and local crafts.
