An open-air dinner featuring wild boar specialties in the heart of lower Sabina
The Selci Wild Boar Festival is one of the most recent additions to the Sabina event calendar, yet it has already won over its audience. Launched in May 2025 by the Pro Loco Selci Futura APS, with the involvement of local volunteers and producers, the festival brings the small town of Selci to life—a village in lower Sabina in the province of Rieti, Lazio. For one evening in mid-May, the parking area below Piazza del Popolo turns into a long, open-air dining table where wild boar is the absolute star.
The festival menu is a tribute to traditional Lazio game cooking. Wild boar is served in various preparations, ranging from the classic to the rustic:
The main courses are accompanied by local cheeses, cured meats, artisanal bread, and traditional desserts, all washed down with local Sabina wine.
The festival is about more than just food: the evening is enlivened by live music, with bands taking the stage to engage the crowd with singing, karaoke, and group dancing. During the inaugural 2025 edition, Gli Stornellatori performed, bringing the authentic spirit of Roman musical tradition to the square. The atmosphere is typical of Sabina village festivals: informal, familiar, and perfect for couples, families, and groups of friends.
Selci is a small hillside village in the province of Rieti, immersed in the olive grove landscape that defines lower Sabina, a land famous for its extra virgin olive oil. The festival is a great opportunity to discover this corner of Lazio, which remains off the beaten path of mass tourism, easily accessible from Rome, and to combine dinner in the square with a stroll through the alleys of the historic center or nearby villages in the Tiber Valley.
The formula is the authentic one of village festivals: free admission, you only pay for what you eat, and reservations are recommended for large groups. It is an event that combines food, wine, music, and social connection, which the town intends to grow edition after edition.
Following the success of its debut, the Selci Wild Boar Festival returned to Selci for its second edition on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM. The parking area below Piazza del Popolo once again transformed into a large open-air restaurant, with wild boar prepared according to traditional Lazio recipes.
The Pro Loco Selci Futura APS involved local volunteers and producers for an evening that combined gastronomy, live music, and conviviality. Admission was free, with payment only for what was consumed, and reservations were recommended for large groups. A simple and authentic format that confirms the festival as one of the most anticipated May events in lower Sabina, in the province of Rieti.
Live music with rotating bands, karaoke, and group dancing in an atmosphere suitable for couples, families, and groups. Time: from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
Selci is located in lower Sabina, in the province of Rieti, and can be reached by car from Rome in about an hour. The festival takes place in the parking area below Piazza del Popolo, in the town center.
