The festival of autumn flavours in the Sabina region of Casaprota
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Autumn Festival in Casaprota — often advertised under the name Autumn Flavours — is one of the most delicious food and wine festivals in the Rieti Sabina. Every year, towards the end of October, this small village in the province of Rieti, Lazio, transforms into a gastronomic journey through its ancient alleys, filled with stalls, tastings, and traditional dishes. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Casaprota and attracts visitors from all over the region, drawn by the genuine flavours of a territory that has guarded the art of fine dining for centuries.
The heart of the festival is Sabina cuisine, served in an authentic and generous style. Among the specialties you can taste along the gastronomic route are:
October is olive harvest month, and the festival coincides with the milling season: during the event, it is possible to visit local oil mills and watch the pressing process live, discovering how Sabina oil is made. Alongside the culinary offerings, there is a program designed for all ages, with walks in the surrounding area, live music, performances by bands and folk groups, guided tastings, shows, and entertainment throughout the village streets. Past editions have also featured horseback riding, open-air poetry readings, and evening concerts.
Casaprota is a small municipality in the province of Rieti, nestled between the Via Salaria, the Farfa River valley, and the Sabina Mountains. Its historic center, with its narrow streets and picturesque corners, is the ideal setting for an event that combines good food, tradition, and landscape. For those looking to discover the authentic Sabina, far from the most crowded destinations in Lazio, the Autumn Festival is the perfect opportunity for a weekend dedicated to local flavours and village hospitality.
The Autumn Festival (Autumn Flavours) returns to Casaprota in the autumn of 2026. At the moment, the Pro Loco has not yet made official the exact dates or the detailed program for the edition. Based on previous years, the event is traditionally held in the second half of October, featuring Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch, with Cicolano chestnuts, Amatriciana, DOP Sabina oil, and open oil mills. We will update this page as soon as official information becomes available.
Casaprota can be reached by car via the Via Salaria (SS4), heading towards Sabina and taking the exit for the Farfa valley; the village is about an hour from Rome and forty minutes from Rieti. By train, the reference station is Poggio Mirteto, continuing by car.
Admission to the event is free; dishes and tastings are paid for at individual stalls. A municipal area equipped for camper parking is available.
