The food and wine festival of Santa Rufina di Cittaducale, featuring open cellars, Sabina flavors, and tradition

Rulli e Cantine is the food and wine festival that transforms Santa Rufinaโa village in the municipality of Cittaducale, in the province of Rietiโinto a vibrant, colorful destination every November. Set in the most authentic part of the Lazio region, at the foot of the Reatini mountains and along the ancient Via Salaria, the event celebrates the rural culture of the Sabina area in a spirit of community that delights both young and old.
The heart of the event is the food and wine trail that winds through the village's cellars, reopened for the occasion and hosted by local families. Here, you can savor traditional dishes prepared by hand according to age-old recipes:
Tastings lead visitors from cellar to cellar on a journey that is as much about human connection as it is about gastronomy, filled with the aromas, flavors, and stories of the residents.
Rulli e Cantine is about more than just food: the event was born with the goal of revitalizing the historic center of Santa Rufina through art. Along the village streets, gas and water utility boxes are hand-painted by local artists, creating a true painting competition that brightens the alleys. In addition to the tastings, each year features vintage motorcycle exhibitions, theatrical performances, and entertainment such as the Variety Cartoon Show, performances by the Shining Stars majorettes of Cittaducale, photographic exhibitions with historical images and family trees, historical conferences, and moments of remembrance dedicated to the community.
The festival is organized by the Rulli e Cantine Association, founded specifically to promote the Santa Rufina area through art, exhibitions, shows, and traditional recipes. Each edition is the result of the volunteer work of dozens of residents who reopen their cellars and courtyards, bringing the entire village back to life. Collaboration with the Cittaducale Pro Loco and local entities makes Rulli e Cantine one of the most cherished autumn events in the province of Rieti.
Those who arrive in Santa Rufina during Rulli e Cantine find much more than just a food festival: they find the warmth of an entire community, the taste of the most genuine Sabina cuisine, and the magic of a village that, just days before St. Martin's Day, celebrates the new wine and the end of the agricultural year. It is the ideal appointment to discover the authentic soul of inland Lazio and the Sabina reatina.
The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition of Rulli e Cantine in Santa Rufina have not yet been published. The event is traditionally held over a weekend in November, with the usual itinerary through open cellars, tastings of Sabina cuisine, and artistic and cultural initiatives. Official information will be communicated by the Rulli e Cantine Association in the weeks leading up to the event.
By car: Santa Rufina is located along the Via Salaria (SS4), just a few kilometers from Rieti and the center of Cittaducale. From Rome, take the A24 to Rieti, then follow the Salaria towards Cittaducale.
Parking and Shuttle: In recent editions, a free shuttle train service has operated from the Via Palmiro Togliatti parking lot to the historic center.
Admission to the event is free; tastings in the cellars are available at the popular prices typical of local festivals. We recommend comfortable clothing suitable for the autumn season.
The festival traditionally takes place in November, shortly before the feast of St. Martin.
