Springtime in South Tyrol: blossoms, flavors, and culture in Scena
"Schenna blüht auf / Scena in fiore" is the festival that welcomes the arrival of spring in Scena (Schenna), a charming town nestled on a sunny terrace above Merano, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Organized by the Scena Tourist Board (Tourismusverein Schenna), it is not just a single event but a comprehensive umbrella of activities that transforms the village into a stage for nature, culture, and culinary delights from late March to late May.
The common thread is the blossoming: from the apple orchards that paint the Merano slopes in shades of white and pink to the aromas of the first seasonal herbs brought to the table. Numerous initiatives revolve around this theme, spread across restaurants, mountain farms, wineries, and the village's two castles, Castel Scena (Schloss Schenna) and Castel Goyen (Schloss Goyen).
Scena is one of the most beloved destinations in the Merano area due to its sunny location and panoramic views over the Merano basin and the surrounding mountains. The "Scena in fiore" festival allows you to experience the village at the most beautiful time of the year, when the orchards are in bloom, combining South Tyrolean farming tradition with a culture of fine food and wine. Many events are free to attend, and the Guest Pass Schenna offers visitors free use of public transport and access to selected initiatives.
Events take place in the center of Scena and its surrounding hamlets, including Raiffeisen Square, the castles, and local farms. The festival typically runs from late March until the final days of May, with a program that unfolds week by week.
The 2026 edition of the festival opened on March 28 with a festival dedicated to non-alcoholic aperitifs and innovative drinks, continuing throughout the spring until May 31. The program spanned the iconic locations of Scena (Schenna), in the province of Bolzano.
By car: A22 Brenner motorway, Bolzano Sud exit, then the MeBo expressway to Merano and the short drive up to Scena. By train: Merano station, then local bus to Scena.
